Alright so it's not mine but I am the reason it's joining our family. My mom's terminating her 2004 Trailblazer EXT LT2 Lease and just put in the order for a 2008 CX-9 Sparkling Black Mica Grand Touring.

She came to me asking for suggestions for replacements for her aging trailblazer aka the gas guzzler (according to the computer, over the 28000 mile life of the vehicle it's averaged a solid 12mpg even LOL) I suggested the CX-9, I went with her to test drive it and she was instantly sold.

It's coming straight from japan should be here in give or take a month. Fully loaded black on black, sunroof, DVD navigation, rear seat entertainment sytem with the 9" screen (you can now order them with both the sunroof and the 9" fold down screen) rear view camera

Anyways, I'll post pics up when she arrives from Japan :) Cant wait till she gets off the boat (headbang)

There are 2 DVD options. The first one is the one most people know about and is only available if you don't get the moonroof.

The other option is for cars with the moonroof. It's basically a portable dvd player that is dockable with the car. The docking station is fixed to the headliner behind the moonroof and when docked the dvd player is upside down. It looks very similar to the picture below.

You can un-dock it and bring it inside for use as personal dvd player. It accepts RCA inputs and can output to a tv. The docking station also accepts RCA inputs. Sound can be heard through wireless headphones or the radio using the built-in FM modulator I believe. You will have to manually set your radio to an unused FM station.

It is also plays Gameboy Advance games. It comes with two wireless headphones and a joystick. It doesn't look as integrated with the car as the first DVD option. From what I understand this used to be a dealer installed option but is now available installed from the factory.

I believe the screen may also be bigger than the first DVD option.

I may have gotten it wrong.

In early February 08 when I first inquired with my dealer about not being able get the Rear Entertainment System option because I got the Moonroof option, he mentioned they did offer a DVD accessory they could install for me but there was no other DVD option available at the time.

I don't think the DVD accessory he mentioned was specific to the CX-9 as he mentioned that they have installed it on other Mazda models.

This is it:

I guess sometime in late February Mazda started offering this same accessory as a factory installed option for the CX-9.
