Hey guys,

Just thought I would drop a line as I am new.

I drive a cosmic blue 2007 Mazdaspeed3. I am on my second engine and turbo (rofl2).

Mods include Cobb SRI, CPE catted turbo-back exhaust and I used to run the Cobb AP until my engine grenaded.

I'm located in Alberta, Canada. If anyone happens to live around the Edmonton area, drop me a line.

Hey man, welcome to the forums, we are a pretty helpful forum, if you ever need help, just ask anyone. Many of us (like myself) are on here like 20/7 (Gotta sleep sometime) and we would be glad to help out. Just wanted to say hi.

Sean.

EDIT: Also, we have regional forums, try finding some close-by city in the Index and post it up in there and you can find people and possibly some Car meets or Mazda meets.

Thanks for the welcome. I have surfed the odd page here and there on this forum but never joined. There seems to be an accumulating wealth of knowledge.

I will check to see if there is a regional forum for my locale.

Haha. No worries there. I work in a control room so there is not much to do other than surf the net. Well, not much to do when things are running smoothly.

Welcome, eh? (canada) [sorry, couldn't resist] Happy motoring, you'll find more info here than you'll probably ever need. 1 quick Q, curious minds want to know:

I am on my second engine and turbo .

Wha happa? We often hear horror stories like these, good for the blood, makes it circulate better after a couple of heart attacks due to tales of woe. (nailbyt)

I was running a Cobb access port with the stage 2 + SF OTS tune, Cobb intake and CP-E turbo back exhaust. I stepped on it while it was cool outside (around freezing) and I heard what sounded like a huge backfire but the whole car shook. The car drove fine (parked it shortly after this for winter). I uninstalled the Cobb AP.

Next summer, I was bagging it down the highway. I shifted from 4th to 5th and as soon as I let my clutch out, boom! There was a hole in the front and back of the block due to cylinder number 4 rod failing. I was only going 120km/hr (somewhere around 70 mph I believe).

I believe the Cobb tune was the reason for the failure. We are geographically a lot higher up here than where they designed their tunes plus it was getting fairly cool outside. Every engine also requires a different tune due to slight differences in manufacturing and part clearances.

Mazda replaced my engine under warranty (with Cobb AP uninstalled).

Three weeks after I got my car back, it started smoking at idle really bad. Mazda replaced my turbo under warranty with no questions asked.

All in all, Mazda has had my car more than I have this summer lol. I was just lucky to have gotten warranty on both the engine and the turbo.

Welcome aboard. Guard your wallet.

Guard my wallet? Are you saying Mazda mods are expensive? Maybe they are...

Cobb AP
CP-E CAI
Cobb SRI
HKS SRI
CP-E TBE
HKS SSQV
TWM SS
TWM Bushings
TWM Shift Boot
Rims, several sets of rubber
And more!

Or are you referring to someone here trying to steal my money?(bolt)

Edit

Yes, I was experimenting with intakes :P

Thanks guys.

The worst part of the engine failure was waiting for Mazda to decide if they were going to warranty it or not. It took them 2 months to make up their mind. It worked out in the end.

It's funny how the mechanic said "this is not mazda's thought, but every mechanic I have spoke with believes there is an issue feeding oil to cylinder number 4."

There is an issue with that. You would think mazda would fix it too.

I know you guys were curious about my motor blowing up. I just came across this picture.
