New Generation of Sirius = KICKASS

Is it true that w/ tint, you can't get decent reception? I'm gonna be getting 35% all around soon, but I dont want to mount the antenna w/ sticky stuff if it's not gonna get good reception... anyone know for SURE?
From what I understand is that not all window tints are made of the same material. I believe some films are made with metallic particles which IMHO would cause a reduction in reception.

Look for Dyed window films and not Metallic ones (but check with the installer first) and ask several installers and see if they give you the same answer(s).

So the sirius plugs into the input on the back of the HU? I already have something plugged in there how do I plug in two different inputs?

Now what tuner does American satellite send us? doesn't the Kenwood deck have the capability to control the Sirius so we don't need that tuner with the display and mounting bracket and stuff?

To answer post # 43, the Sirius tuner has 2 ports in it. One goes to the HU, the other is to plug something else into it (like a CD changer or whatnot).

For post # 45, the Kenwood HU is able to display the Sirius information, the tuner is to convert the digital satellite signal into something the HU understands.

That part I knew. I was just wondering which tuner would be sent to us. For those without a Kenwood head unit, they would have to buy a tuner that had the display. Like you said, since we have the Kenwood, we don't. I was wondering if we got the basic tuner that we could hide anywhere or did the package that American satellite sent had the "multipurpose" tuner.

Just got off the phone with Bill at American Satellite. Was kind of confused at first when I followed the phone instructions and was forwarded to DirecTV service,(huh) but I guess that's where Sirius orders go too. He had to ask his supervisor what was going on with the "free" stuff, but it was all rectified. If his computer didn't crash twice while I was on the phone(pissed), it would have been about 10 min . I got stuck paying shipping too, but hell, $20 for $70+ worth of equipment is a cost I don't mind paying. Got back to work and filled out the online user agreement. Kit should be shipped today or tomorrow through UPS.

Can't wait for it.(rockon)

you shouldn't and don't have to pay for shipping. Call them back and make sure they aren;t charging you. hell 20 buck for a college student is like a free night of drinking (beer) . unless of course you don't care about the money. also you don't have to pay for activation either.

I probably should have, but I had to get back to work so I didn't really meddle with it. I'll agree with you though MSPBlazinYellow. That 20 bones would send me to the hospital in college (that's what happens when your roomate's a local bartender :D ). So how do I go about getting free activation? Does the sirius website have that set up or do I have to call?

Also, where did you guys install your tuner? There's probably a thread somewhere about that, but I was curious as to what you guys have done (and it puts that answer in the Audio subforum).

I hid the box in front of the cups, under ashtray (under console) where you can't see it (i.e. under that little useless pocket).

Mine is attached to the rear seats, on the back, technically in the trunk. I ran the cord from the rear of the head unit through the center console, under the rear interior rug. The antenna comes up through the rear deck, in between the 2 speakers.

Mine's under the passenger seat and the antenna (first gen, not the new one) was on the third brake light cover. I have pics somewhere...

Or just install the tint and if it does affect reception, mount the antenna elsewhere. It's just double sided tape. Use Acrysol to clean the surface after peeling the old off and apply some new 3M tape. You're done.

i have the tuner under the drivers seat. and the antenna comes up through the middle child seat hook thingy (technical term) and attaches to that hump in between the two speaker grills. btw my car didnt come with the kenwood keys to easily get the Hu out. so yeah, it was a b**** getting it out!

if you want the get the free activation you have to call. the website is not set up to give you free activation. but activation is 5 dollars over the internet, compared to 15 dollars over the phone. go figure.

lol i mounted my antennea in the exact same place because i didnt want to have that s*** on my roof

just an FYI, this may work fully, and maybe only partially, but worth a try:

When you call Sirius to activate, mention that you were told that the activation was free as well. They might give you a free activation, but at the least, they'll most likely offer you the $5 web activation fee as opposed to the supposedly required $15 to activate by phone. Be adament about it, you can save yourself AT LEAST $10.

(drinks) (drinks) SIRIUS PACKAGE IS IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(headbang) Ok... enough smileys. It shall be installed tonight and hopefully activated as soon (if not before) I'm done.

I'll try and post pick of where I installed everything. No pics of the outside though. I swear the birds around here were trained by Gulf experienced A-10 pilots (how else could I get bird $#!+ on the mirror part of my driver's side view mirror????). Oh well, she needs a wash anyways.

Thank you to all who posted with their mounting locations.
