New Exhaust for Mazdaspeed Proteges

help guys. I got someone to installed the exhaust for me. At first few hundred kms, there was no CEL. Now I have CEL on, and they didn't reset my battery. Should I do that? Would that be the reason why CEL is on right now?

Nice to see everyone got their exhausts. Got mine today. Its nice to come home and have a new toy to play with. By the way I got my car on the dyno today and I put down 152hp and 158tq. The new toy is going on monday and the car goes back on the dyno later this week.

Well Its probably going to be a couple of weeks before I get mine installed b/c my car is at the dealer with a blown transmission (sad1). Can someone post a definite "how to" with pics. This way no one runs into any major issues installing it.

Did they disconnect the battery when installing it? Is the O2 censor in place correctly?

I had to rewire the o2 sensor so that it could reach but the thing is make sure you get the wires right and use heat to shrink the tubing. The only flaw with mine is when i hit bumps you hear a Klunk under the car that must be the exhuast hitting something, sounds a little more to the rear side though. i should've taken pics on how to wire it but it isn't hard.

Here are a few pics from my car :)

hey renzo, how bad is your clunking? did anyone else's gasket for the s-pipe line up?

The clunk is bad, but im goin to my bros shop to check it out on weds. They have a lift. I got the incorrect gasket for the s pipe, too. I just used the stock one.

Yeah my clunk is really bad too. If you have a camera take pics of under the car and send them in. Did you have to grind the nuts down? I hope nothing is getting hurt from all the grinding.

i am not sure what I am supposed to be grinding down. I will most likely be putting mine on tomorrow, guess I'll see then. Hopefully the Kartboys will help out with the clunk. Do you think it is because it goes over the axle? Or are we sure it is the J-pipe on the crossmember?

Im very sure its the j-pipe hitting the crossmember. When we put it on it was very close to it.

Was thinking the same thing. It may be clunking near rear axle. If you look at the 5th pic in post # 522, it looks like there is plenty of clearance at the crossmember.

Also, check out the 3rd pic in post # 522. See how the nuts have that rounded lip on the bottom of them? I would imagine that the rounded lip is what we will have to grind.

Or, if we knew the thread size of those studs, then we could probably buy some nuts at the hardware store that do not have that lip and are the same thread size. This may require some type of washers, but I'm not positive. If so I think that a square washer of some sort would work best. This would give plenty of clearance for the side of the j-pipe and a little extra contact surface on the front and back side of those nuts.

LOL, been doing alot of planning since I have to wait till Monday to get mine.

LOL, was writing when you posted. At least if it is hitting the crossmember, it will probably be easier to fix. Correct me if I'm wrong about the part that needs grinding. Do you think the nut replacement idea will work. Figured I'd ask since some of you have already installed.

Yeah I'm pretty positive it's hitting the crossmember. I also think that the kartboy bushings would fix it, but I'm not sure. I'll know tues/weds when mine come in.

did anybody notice after you put on the exhaust, there is a rubber burning smell coming out from the exhaust? is this normal?

Packing materiel maybe? Don't know what would cause that smell. Check and make sure your wiring for O2 sensor is routed away from the downpipe. That's probably not it though if it is coming from the exhaust tip. Did you ever get that CEL resolved?

yeah, I reset my ecu and CEL is gone for now. But I notice before I reset my ecu, the exhaust was louder. Now is sounds like stock muffler
