New Engine

since the engine is imported from Japan and it is JDM, wont you need a JDM cpu? wont it be different?
just wondering if you could use your stock CPU on this engine?
(shrug)
You can use the stock ecu but will have to do a OBDI to OBDII conversion harness as the JDM is OBDI and stock US ecu is OBDII. Also you won't get the full benefits of the JDM engine as the US ecu is tuned (poorly) for 9-1 compression and the JDM engine is 10.4-1 and has different cams and intake plenum. So a piggyback unit would probably be needed also, for proper tuning. It's alot work and money for 170hp. Be easier, but not necessarily cheaper, to get a US P5 engine and turbo it 6-8 psi , which should be safe for stock internals, plus a piggyback like the Unichip. I got the engine I'm building for turbocharging from Greenleaf for 1000 shipped.

According to Corksport:
"installation can be difficult and expensive. (wiring/ECU,VRIS control, machine work in head for distributor)"

Although I don't think you'd need to worry about the machine work for a distributor since the P5 doesn't use a distributor either.

thanks for the explanation...i used greenleaf as well for my mazdaspeed engine + i got a full lifetime warrenty from the....Greenleaf is the best!

I found one for $700, with only 9000 miles on it. Anyone know if theres any mazdaspeed engines.
it makes no difference if it is from a mazdaspeed or not - they are the same engine

you might also want to check with greenleaf engines, they might have a engine for less than that.

Just buy an engine from wagner with forged pistons and piston rods...then you're ready to throw some boost on there (I've heard up to like 16lbs).
