but wanted to know your thoughts. i have an athlon xp 2500 and i was wondering if my current RAM will work or will i have to buy new ram, etc

is that the bare bones? cuz i dont see any RAM info...

EDIT: if it is bare (motherboard...etc.) then its a decent deal if your looking to build a BIG FU@$ING PC.

beware of Kpabap! :D

I just saw you sig for the first time in a while...great stuff on the Mazdausa.com! congrats

[size=-1]Memory: 2 x 184 pins DDR Slot, (DDR 400/333, Max 2 GB)

is the ram requirement for ther mobo. you'll need two identical sticks

valid question, i guess ill have to reboot to tell you what speed it is. i have 512mb but i cant remember what speed ddr. i want to say 2100.

if its a 2100 stick then it wont work.. unless it can overclock like a mofo... certain RAM can... some can't

ok ill get some new ram, no biggie...so i can get just one stick of 1GB PC3200?

and other than that, what do you think of what i selected? and if you like it, know of a cheaper place?

yeah instead of buying new hardware, spend the $ on cooling, and overclock that badboy....

so from 1.8ghz to 3ghz wont make a difference, even with the differnt speeds of ram etc?

suckit.

anyhow, i do play a lot of HL2 and games like it (not all the time but i move from one to another).

what if i upgraded to 1gb from 512mb of ram on my computer now?

its not that my current computer is particulary slow, i just figured i want a black case to match the rest of my new pc components (speaker, lcd screen) so while i was in there i might as well upgrade.

i think my board only supports up to 1GB ram, so will i notice a diff in doubling from 512? also, i had 15krpm scsi but everytime i had a computer crash or whatever it was a ******* hassle to get windows to install on them (finding them to boot from etc) and i had to have extra cooling for them.

whats your general complaint with the pc? if u say where you want it to be better maybe it would be easier to say what you need upgraded. people can suggest parts all day but it depends on what your looking for. like where does it suck?

haha...yes. this was 6 years ago for one. secondly i mainly did web/graphic design. before that i was a lead tech in a VERY small computer firm, but then i did very simple s***. i set up business networks, replaced hds, basic trouble shooting, etc. mainly i did a LOT of troubleshooting with a point of sale network and computer system that i got special training on.

the rest was your basic s*** cause it was small company. go to a site, format, reinstall, plug in (you know how that is), replace, etc etc.

the computer industry you really have to stay on top of or you will find yourself in the dust.

to answer the other question, basically i guess basic tasks around windows etc would help. i keep the computer well maintained - yet clicking on the link from outlook to come to the site will even have a delay...not a long delay but enough to be annoying.

like i said, im not really that disappointed, i just figured that i would upgrade while i had my computer apart.
