i just got a spec stage 2 clutch put in my car and works fine until i down shift and the whole car shakes when i do it while braking. doesnt really do it if im on the gas. the guy got the flywheel machined and a new throw bearing (i think thats what it was called?) does anybody know what it could be or is this just how a stage 2 clutch works??

Welcome the world of Spec. This is common with these clutches. How is reverse? My car shakes sooooo bad in reverse that I sometimes push my car out of a parking spot just to avoid the obnoxious shaking. Also slips and smells real bad too. Spec gets a big thumbs down from me. Others have had good luck, but I never buy nor recommend the purchase of Spec clutches to anyone.

i used a disc from kia 1.8 dohc and an act pressure plate and it is just fine
my friend had the same set up and ran his protege with 100 nitrous. and never had problems with shaking

Do you have aftermarket mounts?

Maybe you should practice some more? I know that sounds like a dick comment, but please don't take it that way. With my Spec, I can back out smoothly, if I try hard. It will vibrate if I don't slip it exactly correctly...but if I do it right it reverses fine...

Shakes while the clutch is all they way out, or while letting it out? If it shakes when letting the clutch out, learn to downshift properly.

Never worry about speaking your opinion my friend, its all good. I appreciate your honesty.
I do have aftermarket mounts. (AWR front, AWR pass side inserts, and AWR tranny mouny.) These actually helped eliminate much of the chatter, but its still real bad in reverse. I have an entire Exedy clutch kit that I just need to get it installed. Hopefully this will stop it once and for all.

Yeah, the mounts definately helped. Much clutch chatter is really the motor shaking in the mounts. Not all though.

Reverse is definately a PITA, I am with ya on that. Do you get a squeek at all when slipping the clutch out. THAT is really annoying, because it's very hard to drive around...

Good luck with the Exedy. Something in my gut told me to go with that setup, but I went with the advice of a trusted local shop and threw the Spec in. Definately not the happiest with it, but it grabs well, doesn't slip and is workable...

it seems like the only thing that i could think of to cause that shaking would be the mounts.

Mouser - You could have a loose strut - check to make sure. Stating the obvious here, but if you still have factory rubber mounts their torn by now - you need better mounts with that clutch. But like everyone else has already said it could be you needing near perfect shifting - just learn how to double clutch for down shifts and most of your issues will go away. It will help you out with your reverse technique, as well.

O.G. - Like you, I have AWR all around except for the rear - been too lazy to swap it out. I have a very smooth exedy/fidanza combo, but reverse still is sensitive - just not as severe as yours : ( Once I get the rear mount in there I'll post the difference it made on an already sweet setup. Not looking forward to more vibration though. What's your vibration like with three mounts (or 2+insert)?
