New car, no more P5!!

Yeah, sucks that everyone is talking s*** about the dudes Jetta. They're neat cars. I really wanted a GTi. Rock that VW, **** the people that don't like them. Proteges are FAR from reliable....(my current list of s***...Clutch Chatter....)

My wife had a 2001 VW GTi 1.8T with automatic transmission and my cousin in law has a 2001 GTi 1.8T with manual transmission. Before we traded the GTi in for another German sedan, I drove my wife's a/t GTi very often and I will say even with automatic shift, it's a fun car to drive. Very responsive and faster than stock manual P5..:P Also, in my opinion, it handles the same as P5, if not better.

They both had some initial quality problems, however, the problems are taken care by the dealer under warranty. Other than that, they have no problem.

I totally agree that Jetta has a bad reputation of reliablity and quality, my co-worker had one jetta, which is a lemon, and dealer took it bad and "exchange" a beetle, turns out it's a lemon also. However, the handling, the solid feeling and safety from German cars are hardly to find on Japanese cars, in my opinion. That's why my wife and I traded the GTi in for another German sedan because of our new born baby.

Anyway, congrates on the Jetta. You will find the "different" idea in making cars between Japanese and Germany car maker and, for sure, you will be the judge!

That's total BS. Maybe yours... but the rate of problems in the first year of ownership for the last two years of Protege production was less than the Civic and almost exactly what the Corolla was.

Nice mature post, by the way...
