New BC Suspension Install

yes sir. correct.

*edit*
is it possible that the term "inverted" may be just for the adjusting knob being inverted for easy access and everything is the same?
I think the gas strut is acutally inverted. The springs should be in the same position.

There were a couple of good example on ksport's website. Their Pro series are all inverted. Also there are some more pics on http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?t=226733

I bought the coilovers from Importimages whom had it dropshipped from BC racing in taiwan

They are in fact inverted shock cartridges. The shock shaft is encased with the threaded steel body, and the bottom of the shock is mounted to the pillowball mount.

If you hold a BR and a RAM, the RAM is obviously top-heavy since virtually all the weight is up with the spring.

Great explaination

i thought inverted was more like this

that's what they look like on my boss's Panoz GT-R... spring and shock piston at the bottom.

doesn't really matter where the spring is, only that it supports the weight of the shock (strut, whatever), and not the other way around. If the cartridge is at the top, it's an inverted shock...

However, I too am having trouble picturing it given the images provided, hence my request for pics of them disassembled.

So the inverted setup is the better overall choice or would it just be personal preference? As far as street driving the RAM should be fine I guess.
I do 95% street driving and 5% drag strip.

How much more are the inverted coilovers?

Benefits of RAM:
1) less unsprung weight due to the monotube being at the top of the assembly.

2) Has higher durability to lateral loads (not that the BR is not durable). ;)

3) The shock fluid will remain/run cooler due to it being farther away from the brakes, resulting in more consistent performance on the track.

4) "Cool" factor of having inverted monotube coilovers. :p

Disadvantages (some subjective):
1) the adjustment knob is on the bottom of the assembly, so you have to reach behind the wheel (turning the wheel helps here for the fronts) in order to access it. And you also have to know which way to turn for softer/stiffer if you can't see it.

2) If the adjustment knob is not tightened fully, you will loose it since gravity wins.

3) Cost, it is more expensive than the BR model ($150 more).

4) I would imagine that only if you last name rhymes with "umacher" then you probably wouldn't be able to tell a performance difference, certainly not on the street.

Thanks wayne, that breaks it down for me as to which direction I'm going to take. I think since I'm already going to be spending alot of money on suspension I might as well fork out the extra dough for the inverted setup. > :) <

Ok , i see good/happy results w/ BC coilovers but....

between ILLUMINAS+ESPELIER vs BS coilovers which one would be best for mainly street/street race + minor track/drag race ??

I have the springs and was about to buy ILLUMINAS but then I have to get some new rubber cushions and stuff for the new "setup -combo" which brings the $$ closer to BC range.
Then again I'd love the ability to raize the car incase of big snow or heavy flud.

based on you're guys experience which one should I go w/ since I haven't bought yet ILLUMIANS I want to make sure that I won't regret and want to get BC short after ILLUMINAS+ESPELIER combo.

I know for sure the inverter or RAM type won't be for me since i'm not racing mainly w/ my MSP.

Feed backs pls

Just picked up a set that DeadGeneration (thanks man!) was selling and the difference is amazing. My buddy and I installed them last night and the ride back home was totally different. I still need to do a final height adjustment and get it aligned but it already feels better than my Ksports. Can't wait to get these adjusted to my liking so I can hit some twisties. In my opinion, I believe they are well worth the investment.
