I think he was implying he wanted the official one once available. It’s less likely to have bugs or issues and I would go that route as long as it’s reasonably priced. But yes if you want the hack sure. I’m not sure if they would do anything to it if not prompted by you though. If it’s not broke don’t fix it kind of thing.

Ok...i have to admit... it's growing on me. [emoji16]
Pleseantly surprised that every single audio app I have on my phone is supported in AA. Even the more obscure one, like Tidal, that I am trialing. And the police scanner app.
And being able to use the voice button on the wheel to make calls or send texts is my favorite feature. That's the only thing I don't like about Mazdas infotainment: that's useless in MZD.
Steering wheel buttons work to answer calls.
/Sidenote the Tidal plan that features lossless audio sounds absolutely amazing on the Mazda Bose system. I won't be keeping it at $20/mo but man...it's awesome.

No. I think the part is a USB port that will allow you to charge your phone better then the ports in there now.

I think AA will be enabled by software and hopefully we will get wireless AA as the wifi module is already in the MC system.

I think the hardware will be some kind of inline Apple carplay license chip. But it could also bring a current boost for iPhone and Android too. The only problem is it would take up your 12V aux console port and a usb port if it does both power and connectivity.

I just don't have faith in Mazda going from no AA to wireless AA. Lol

And if they were they would be mentioning it as it would be a differentiator in their class. So definitely not impossible but seems highly unlikely to me.

Come on guys - let Mazda get AA/ACP deployed properly first to current and prior Mazda's with MZD connect before even thinking of wireless support!

Why? This forum is the place for discussion.

They have to implement the server piece, and other head units now have it. And Mazda has Wifi built in, just not turned on. We have no idea what they plan, but it isn't harder to deploy AA wireless, and it would get them out of having to worry about any hardware for android.

I don't think they really need to upgrade USB port power for AA as the phone screen should be off.

Earlier news today is that google just released AA wireless for Pixel and Nexus.. so i have to wait anyway to see if my phone can run AA wireless.

Yes it is a place for discussion I know that. It may be simple too but... all I am saying is it's taken them this long to actually agree to deploying AA/ACP, let them get this right first of all. Once it is done and dusted, then they can start to think about other stuff including wireless capabilities.

Remember some people are still having issues with MZD firmware even though it has been out since 2013/2014.

Imagine if this AA/ACP deployment causes issues and they are also trying to deploy wireless. Will become a complete and utter shemozzle not to mention class action law suits galore.

We don't know when or what we will see. But unless they release an older version of AA server component, wireless should be in there. I can still hope that when it does come out, we get it all.

No question the port needs upgraded.
If you're running maps and streaming music your phone will drain being plugged in. If not then it would have to be wireless so you could charge your phone.

I don’t think it would pass Apple certification, which is what that chip is about, if it didn’t provide enough power for running maps and streaming without draining the battery.

The addition of wireless support was due to an Android Auto software update. Android Auto is a mobile app, which is never installed on a vehicles infotainment system. Think of Android Auto as plugging an additional monitor into your laptop. Your monitor does not need software to run whatever you move to that screen. The same is true for Android Auto, it's simply using your infotainment screen as an extended display of your phone.

The delays in releasing Android Auto have nothing to do with challenging technological limitations. It was a marketing decision. They hesitated because they were concerned it didn't fit with the Mazda brand.
The mirroring hardware interface is actually quite simple to implement, and already built into all new Mazda vehicles. My point is, if Mazda vehicles do support wireless mirroring, it doesn't add much complexity over the wired implementation. 99% of the complexity exists on the mobile device.

For me, it doesn't make any difference. Doesn't everyone have their phone plugged in while driving anyways?

This.

Marketing probably played a part.

But remember Mazda was listed on Android.com for quite sometime saying it would be supporting AA and moving to use it.

Delays may have also been due to technological decisions as well aka getting proprietary MZD connect software/hardware to work with AA/ACP whilst still having all functionality of MZD Connect working properly.

Unless Mazda HQ in Japan comes out and openly states why it has taken so long to bring AA/ACP, we will officially never know and all this is just speculation.

Nope. I never did. Always had it connected by Bluetooth.
