The Mazda5 is going to get some competition from the new Ford C-Max, which is sporting sliders and will seat seven:

Thanks for share, we'll have to see how it comes out. Does it list engine size? Transmission etc, etc, ??

Wow, finally some competition.

Although I do find it funny that this "competition" comes from Ford who partly owns Mazda and that it will share the same platform as the Mazda5
 
Good, more vehicles are needed in this category to raise public awareness.

The Chevy Orlando will be coming out in a year or two also though that is more of a full-size station wagon.

Nissan had a concept car called the Forum a couple of years ago (saw it at the Chicago Auto Show, February '08) but it morphed into a fleet cargo van. A picture of the Nissan Forum as it was originally proposed is attached.

Agreed. Mazda just doesn't not have the marketing muscle like Ford.
(but then again, Mazda doesn't really seem to try to even market or advertise the Mazda5)
 
"Looks" small, and I hope those sliders make it, they also tricked us with the Orlando first spy pics the other time (freak)
 
Nice looking car, but it seems more like a Kia Rondo than a Mazda 5. I guess they're all in the same class in Europe anyway.
 
The 7 seater is under consideration? With so many other 5 seater wagons on the market it will probably go unnoticed. 7 seats could be a strong selling point. Heck, they could even brag that they have one more seat than the Mazda5 :). Meh. Ford lost my business years ago when they decided hatchbacks weren't worth it.:rolleyes:

Well, you will have the Fiesta coming for hatchbacks. I think those will get more popular as time goes on.

I would rather see a slider on the C-Maxx. I know with my kids, my car and others sitting next to it would be full of door dings from the kids getting in and out of the car (opps, sorry Dad!). I guess they need to decide if they are going after young, professional families or for younger 20's. I would think the 20's would rather have the 3, families are better served with the 5. The whole reason I bought my 5 was the slider. I hope it stays on both models.

Ford of Europe has two 7-seaters, the S-Max and Galaxy. The C-Max is the smallest of this trio.

The Mazda5 overseas also has a 7th seat, we'll see if the next Mazda5 has a DOT-compliant version.
