I guess for the new 2003 Tiburon it features a 181hp 2.7l DOHC 24-valve V-6 177ft-lbs, a optional choice of a 4speed auto, 5Spdmanual, or the 6spdmanual tranny. Edmunds.com said that the new tibby should run heads with the RSX Type-S and Celica GT-S in reliability since this is Hyundai's top of the line best looking car that they've ,made. And that it has something that the eclipse don't have except for the V-6 it has the 6Spd tranny. I guess it shares the same V-6 from the sonata but only more hp i think  so i guess in it's performance class it's really not gonna be that peppy from 0-60mph but i know that it'll have a Topspeed of 218KMH i think that's (135mph) for the 6Spdtranny and 200kmh (123mph) for the other lower models. It doesn't really look that bad but i won't chose a Hyundai over mazda at all. I'd rather chose a honda over hyundai even though i don't like honda's sortta.

Personaly I really like the new tiberon. It's styleing is like a cross between a Mustang and Supra, but smaller. And I think it's about time hyndai made a decent sports car, the current tib and elantra GT are just too slow. Thumbs up to hyundai for putting some real effort into it....for once. :D

The new tiburon exterior was designed by the same people as the ferrari marenello (spelling?) It obiviously has a similar design. I sat in one at the car show, and it was alright. It wasn't the worst car I have been in. I don't think I don't think I would buy one but I won't bash it either.

I like the looks of the Tibby too, but those are some really shi**y numbers coming off that V6 power plant. The way I see it is if you have a sixer and aren't even cracking into the 200hp area, don't bother coming to the party. At least they'ew giving it a shot though. Koreans can rock too sometimes....

I agree APEXistud, at the car show people were walking by the car and were shocked it was a Hyundai! Yeah the V6 is not impressive. Isn't the car really cheap even when fully loaded? Overall I think it's a nice alternative for that price range (super cheap right?)...good effort Hyundai.

I agree Hyundai has come a long way, but the industry is improving just as fast as Hyundai, so they're staying relatively just as far behind as they were. One article I read on the 03 Tiburon described the interior as: "the kind of plastics usually found with a joke and a paper hat..." and the faux guages as: "it wouldn't be a Hyundai without some comedy touches... the star gimmick is the torque guage, telling you how much torque the engine is theoretically providing at a given engine speed, presumably to inform the [questionable owners] as to wheter the noise they can hear is the big end bearings being reground at 6,500rpm" All I can say is Keep trying, Hyundai.

Dont waste your time buying the "100,000" mile waranty piece of junk.....I read about this car and they say "why does it have a six gear",there is not enough power for a sixth gear.....The wrx doesn't have six gears and it probably should...... Yes the car may be quicker than the mp3 but it wont look good nor will it hadle like the mp3

i agree with you me myself won't wonna have the car for 10-year 100,000mile warranty cause it'll probably be in the shop for on and off of most of the 10years"lol.... nahh i don't like hyundai's anyway i would rather by an honda even though i try to compete against them in reliability, with mazda. And i don't think the GLS V-6 sonota is faster than the MP3, That engine is shared with the new Tiburon. :p

I dont really know about how you guys comparing mp3 and hyundai, but for sure i am always close to rally world. Hyundai have made a lot improvement since they compete in WRC and SCCA (anyone whatch speedvision?), meanwhile Mazda didn't show any car since early 1990's (that when the last 323, 4wd ,turbo familia was build) and in SCCA, they just start a few year back.
Since i am grown up in rally world (i try 323 familia in rally ), why can't Hyundai have good suspension system in their car. i guess they have already learn a lot and make improvement. I know that mp3 have a good suspension, but it is not base on rally experiance.

cheers....

No i dont watch rally, it is a waste of time, and any ways who is going to take a car off roading through dirt...My best friend owns an wrx and his can't handle nearly as well as the mp3..I driven his car many times and he has driven mine and will agree.. His car is better on dirt roads but im not driving on a dirt road......
cheers....</STRONG>

o.k first off. where did you do your reading?

about 6th gear. Do you know anything about gearing?

The Tibs have very short gears. So 6th gear is fine. the 6th gear in the 6speed tib is equivalent to the 5th gear in the 5 speed.

now in the gear ratio's of the 5 speed to add a longer 6th gear = stupid. but thats NOT what they did. They shorted each gear before it and added one more. You get through the gears really quick. Which is where the wrx falls flat. 3rd gear it is VERY sluggish.

I will agree the stock power off the tib is low for a 2.7 v6. But ya know it makes the tuners happier. Here is why.

Scion TC owners will buy a 200$ Aem intake and gain 3whp.
same with 350z owners

Tiburon Owners buy a 200$ intake and gain 13+whp.
I pay 300 for my SS exhaust and went from 140whp stock to 166 with the exhaust + cai.

Pay another 275 for the ss headers and were at 178whp.

In the TC cai + catback exhaust nets 8whp. w00t what a waste of money.

In the 350z test and tunes, someone spend over 1500, buying exhaust, intake headers and gained an amazing 5whp and 11ft/lb of torque.

Now take into consideration F/I. A stock Tiburon running a turbo kit at 7 psi puts out over 280whp and over 270ft/lb of torque.

The RippMods SDS supercharger puts out 318whp on the manual.

Oh yeah both on stock internals and the auto on a stock T/C

As i stated this car is made pretty solid. Hyundai hasn't proven itself to most people yet, but in time it will.

311mazda, i can understand how a v6 tib would seem slow compared to a mustang gt, but when i had a CAI, cat back and custom ported upper and lower manifolds only *costing me 650 total, i out ran stock GT's *example, took on a new yellow one on ga 400 north, from 40 - 90 i gained 2 cars and thats it.. from a roll of course. from a stop rwd > fwd.

That also brings up the gearing again. Reason the Mustangs 210whp mustang gt isn't that great compared to my tibs 175whp is the gearing in the mustang is too long. It makes a considerable difference if you ask people.

Demon Eyes you're a little late, this thread started back in 2002, and feb 2002 was the year the last post came from...:), very very old thread haha

So, what, you're just spending all your time searching this forum for threads involving tiburons? This thread started and ended before the car even came out!

And you're really not helping your case by saying what great gains you get with basic mods. This just shows that Hyundai sucks at tuning and engine building even more than they do at everything else.
