NEMOC Random BS Thread

It was cwazy?

Small motorcycles outnumber cars 50-75 to 1. No joke. Only about 10% of the intersections have street lights. Everyone goes into an intersection at the same time. Surprisingly, I never saw a single accident. Freaked the hell out of me though.

did she say this was 2wd or 4x4? i have never needed weight in the back in a 4x4...maybe im not puttin down as much powa

Its the lack of weight in the rear than the power. Especially if you run larger/ wider tires in the snow. Skinny/ tall tires are better in the snow. It also depends on how you drive. I always did the sand in my tacoma because it helped, especially with starting from a dead stop at lights.

Yeah, Luke nailed it.

My tacoma was VERY light, and when it rained/snowed, I was happy to have the weight back there. More traction never hurts.

Chris, you might not run into that issue because your truck is a heck of a lot heavier.

You guys both owned Tacomas before??? That was my other choice.. Drove one and it was really nice but had a smoker as the previous owner, the smell kicked up my allergies.

Yeah, I had a tacoma in between my 6 and my forester.

It was an ok truck, but I'm not really a truck person. I like wagons more.

Morning all. My sister arrives today and staying for a few days. Any meets going on this weekend. A little out of touch lately

Tested the brakes on the P5, they seemed to have gotten spongier, but the pedal doesn't seem to keep sinking, so it's probably not the master cylinder.

Got the car aligned at NTB yesterday (under my 3-year alignment warranty plan), with mediocre results. I asked for zero toe all around and he was "of course, we gonna get it all zero'd out!" What do you know, the steering wheel is somewhat crooked.

The guy went outside in the dark, shined a light at my tires and told me that my center tread is all gone (false), my tires are at about 4/32nds (they are more like 5/32nds, but he just eyeballed it) and that the legal limit for tread depth in MA is 3/32nds (false, it's 2/32nds). The told me that with the coming wet season, I better get some new tires.

Then, when I decided to humor him and just see what kind of prices and selection NTB has, I asked him to run my stock size 195/50/16. Then when only 4 tires came up (as expected), I asked him to run a slightly wider size at 205/50/16. When I said 205, he went and put "55" in the aspect ratio to compensate for the width increase... except that's wrong and makes it bigger.

So basically, NTB Waltham, the guy uses half-truths to try to sell me tires, the techs don't give a crap and do half-assed alignment jobs. I guess the new part this visit is I haven't had the sales attempt happen before. Techs not caring is normal. I pity the regular joes going there to get work done or tires mounted.

I don't even want to think about the times they told me my RX-8 could not be aligned and that it was too low for the lift to change tires. And the time they told me I needed drop spindles to fix my alignment. DROP SPINDLES!

Yup, I have a Tacoma TRD. 5 spd. 4wd, and ran 31'' tires on it. Loved that truck. Traded it with 160,000 (ran and looked like new) for the MS6. Still kick myself for getting rid of it. Thats why I went for the 4Runner. I love Toyota SUV's and Trucks (my dad is on his second Tundra). I really would love a 350 diesel, but thats when I strt my own company.

The smoke smell would drive me nuts. My dad actually got his S2000 from Mohegan Sun (someone won it and traded it back to the dealer for cash). He got it for a steal, but he had to have it detailed 3 times before he even drove it to get he smoke smell out of it. It was pretty cool to go to Mohegan Sun and get to look at his car up on the spinning display in the middle of the floor lol

ha-ha, Sean remember the first time we actually met? We did your stereo and speaker swap in less than 2 hours since I have taken my Tacoma's system apart so may times it was easy to do yours.

I remember that clearly lol. You knew the audio setup in that truck better than I knew my 6's setup.

Unfortunately for me, but fortunately for you, I had a lot of issues with the stereo in the Tacoma that I had installed and had replaced all of it a couple of times.

Is that the one that overlooks 128? Never been in there. My coworkers all go to Hogan Tire right on main street. They don't know much about cars but claim the prices are good and the staff is friendly.

Yes, that's the one. Don't go there. I just wrote an extensive review in Google reviews and a Yelp one too. Tell your coworkers to avoid NTB Waltham.

I've been to Hogan once. Their tires are very high if you don't buy tires there (they are anti-TireRack and such), but I was in a tight spot and paid $30-35/ea to mount them (I forget exactly, but it was at least $30). The tech did a great job, got the lowered car carefully onto the lift, didn't scratch the wheels, except the balancing was okay. It was good enough to drive around for a while, but it was not a really nice balancing.

I don't know why so many shops half-ass the balancing, it's like, please spend one more minute per tire and a weight or two more and get it really even. So far, the one place I trust for a good balance is my dealer, but way too much $$$ ($150 for mount'n'balance). I paid $40 to rebalance my tires there with a coupon though, after Town Fair Tire did an okay job. It's butta smooth now.

So i recently found out the rims on my truck have started to flake and peel (of course they are out warranty). I am thinking about making them my winter wheels and doing something different for the summer.

I am thingk about doing these (FJ Cruiser Rims Powder Coated Black):

I found a set on craigslist for $450 (stock, not powder coated). Whats your guys thought on the look and if thats a decent price? What can I expect to pay for pwder coating?

For reference here's my truck again:

I say do it! Of course I'm the guy that likes to run different model Mazda wheels on my car so I might be a little biased. lol Can't see pics at work but what are stock specs and the specs of the FJ?
