NEMOC Random BS Thread

Hey Ashley? Out of curiosity.. how much do you figure you spend each year fixing things on your car?

way less than payments on a new car.

I spend about a grand or so on random stuff. Spent $1500 in the last year on gas, getting 26mpg avg, so I have nothing to complain about. That's not including tires/oil, etc.

Yeah, cheap insurance and low taxes are nice... I just wouldn't want to worry about breaking down all the time and constant repairs. I went through that in college. I got stranded 3 times and finally threw in the towel and got a more reliable car. Not an expensive one, just one I didn't need to worry about.

I have negative income flow right now so another car is out of the question. I don't worry too much about breakdowns...if it happens it happens, and it's few and far inbetween.

Sure, I complain about stuff not being fixed, but my car's gotten me to and from work and wherever else for 3 years. I've missed work maybe 7 days in that time, I've def had to miss it more for being sick.

I did the math, and my car's cost either me or the parents $1400 a year. That includes purchase cost (300) and what I paid for parts to do the engine swap (around 2400). Still cheaper than paying 200 or more a month for a newer car.

Additionally, since you live in boston, public transportation is an option should your car break down.

only to a degree. I work in Beverly, which means I'd have to take orange into town and take commuter rail north.

I do live with Ryan, who's car I steal when it snows or rains anyway.

Yeah I'm pretty pissed. I brought the 8 in to work because there was a 40% chance of rain from 1 PM to 6 PM. I need to get the other tires on it if I'm going to drive it in the rain. And I brought my rollerblades and a change of clothes to go rollerblading on my way home.

Upside: The 8 needed a wash anyway....
