Since we are swapping auto sales people horror stories....here's one I've told before. Trust me, this is a good read.
Went into Hyannis Honda to look at a used Acura. The salesman, Tony, greeted us and was kind...at first. Before giving us the keys for a test drive he showed my wife and I the list of things needed to be done to the car, all of which added up to approx.$2,500. We came back and after a brief talk about our trade-in we felt a bit uncomfortable. His true young sales nature came out. I tried to explain that we had purchased a new Honda from them years back but it was quickly dismissed and taken as if I was trying get more money off the deal. We spent the next 30 minutes waiting....and waiting.
Our car was a low mileage 2004 Jeep Liberty Limited in excellent condition. Tony came back with a ridiculous high payment, would not budge on the sticker price which was high, and gave us the lowest possible trade-in value for our car. We said we wanted to think about about it overnight. He left and brought over a sales manager named Dave. Again I was kind and tried to tell him of our previous sales experience, to no avail it was brushed off. Instead we were insulted from him telling us how "Jeep is going bankrupt", "the parts are hard to find", they don't think they would be able to sell our car, and so on. Then he explained that the $2,500 in repairs needed for the Acura was part of the deal as if we had to pay for it. That was the final straw and we left.
Days later we get a call at 9A.M. It was Tony and he said to my wife he was sorry we could not come to an agreement on the car. Mentioned that they could look for other Acura's if we were interested. When my wife said no thank you, he then proceeded to say that, "If you wait a few months you may qualify for the Cash for Clunkers bill". The next response was not pleasant. My wife was infuriated and said, "You can qualify for the F*** Off bill!" Never...ever going there again. After owning 3 Acuras and a Honda this was very sad to experience.
