NEMOC Random BS Thread

Truth! AT&T's problem is that any fanboi who wants a phone that does **** all bought the iPhone. 6 billion applications, all designed to do nothing practical.

I remember reading a UK article that said that the phone is awesome for being an all in one device for music, photos, web browsing, applications, etc... but it sucks ass as a phone.

Yeah.. As an actual phone it is awful. I wanted to throw my sister's through a wall.

I'd much rather have a blackberry tour or a droid.

Not to start a debate, but what sucks ass about it being a phone, other than AT&T?

My big gripe is the lack of tactile buttons. To make a phonecall you are subject to dialing the numbers on a touch screen etc etc. That's massively annoying when you want to make a call, switch over to call waiting, yadda yadda,

I thought it sounded like poo. My Blackberry stomps it as a phone. Good, clear sound and it didn't drop signal every time you move.

Stand still? hahaha

Brought back memories of when we had one phone while I was growing up and it had a cord! lol

everyone's got their own preferences, but the lack of tactile feedback is not the problem you make it out to be. to switch over to call waiting, I move phone away from my face, then tap once on the screen. But it's pretty much average as a phone. I've used "phonier" phones that were loud, extra good reception, menus designed well (this old sony ericsson), and I've used utter crap phones as a phone (my old RAZR, most motorolas of that generation).

So, on the other hand, in addition to my average phone, I use a few essential apps. I stream music (my favorite online radio stations), I record my car's service and gas records, I can access my finances online (quicken app), check twitter, upload photos to flickr and facebook, remote desktop to machines, make beats on my phone, look up snow conditions for resorts. So I don't really care if you call me a fanboi or whatever you like, but I get to do all this s*** on my phone, in addition to calling, and it's pretty great. Oh, and scrolling through pictures is pretty fast.

(Now, my roommate bought the Droid and it's cool too for many of the same reasons.)

i hate the rain, too!!!!! we need snow!

Just thought I'd mention this since I'm a meteorologist and I love snowstorms more than a fat kid loves cake....

Even though all the news outlets and The Weather Channel are forecasting a mostly sunny and dry weekend coming up there is a chance (less than 25%) that the northeast could get hit by a pretty substantial snowstorm. If any of you cares for, or is interested in, the details just ask and I'll start rambling, but to make a long story short...it's still a real possibility that it may snow but they're saying "sunny weekend" because they're pressured to make forecasts for 4 to 8 days out and any forecast past 3 days is so unreliable that they're safest by just picking the "most probable" outcome.

Let the anticipation begin!

that's interesting! I loves me some weather. wunderground.com is my go-to site for weather.

Excited for the snow!

I got to wash the Miata last night in its resting place and it no longer has a layer of dust and waterspots on it.

Cool cool. I like to think I use my Blackberry for as much of what it was made to do as I can. I keep the calendar up to date, keep track of finances, etc. I just know that A LOT of people that I know with Blackberries got one because it was the cool thing to do.

Aaah well. But what brought it all up was this article..

http://www.thetechherald.com/articl...CNET-UK-names-iPhone-worst-phone-in-the-world
yeah, the phone call and microphone quality was improved substantially in the 3G release (I've owned both). I used to have a blackberry pearl, but I wouldn't buy another blackberry with that suretype half-keyboard... just was awkward, I couldn't get used to it (unlike my other roommate that typed mighty fast on it). so only full keyboard blackberries for me from now on!

No joke man. I had a Pearl for about 3 days. I quickly offed that s***. hated it. I've had the 8703, the World, and now the Tour.

By the way.

It's the 21 fing century. When my computer has 4 gigs of RAM, ungodly gigs of space, it's unfooking acceptable to lose 100 characters that I've entered on a web page, just because I accidentally hit backspace, which sent me to the previous page! F'ing unacceptable! This happened in this bug tracking system called JIRA that we use at work. I can't believe they consider it OK to release their web interface with such flaws.

It's the first law of computing: thou shall never lose the user's data.

But wait, I forgot, you can't put down "won't lose user's entry due to accidental navigation away from page" as a feature.

Hear that one Jeff. Rotary dial. Had a laugh with my kids when they were young. Only had used push button phones. Went to their uncle's place in Montreal. He was cheap so he was still using pulse dialing, didn't want to pay the extra buck a month for tone. All his phones were rotary. The girls were trying to make a call and were just putting thier fingers in the empty holes to dial. They thought it was so cool when I showed them how it worked.

back in motha russia, we only had rotary dial. Or pulse dial. So if you bought one of those new-fangled pushbutton phones, you still had to set it to "pulse" instead of tone and wait for the redial to send all the pulses through!

yeah, the pearl blows.. full qwerty ftw.

with that said, I still have a dumb phone.. I love my alias 2 though.
