I've had two replaced through my insurance. It's was easy and they did great work. If you use who they recoommend it's fully warranties and they handle any problems for you.
I figure I pay insurance and that's what they are there for.
I am looking into that route also. It would allow me to hold off on spending money on stuff like new carpets that I would need to replace to sell and also let the market recover a little bit.
thanks. I just don't want a crap job by someone who doesn't give a s***. I like the stock window setup with the tinted area around the mirror as well which I'll probably lose with a replacement.
if the car is new enough you can request OEM. I forget the criteria, but you can ask on the phone. I've had pretty good luck w/ the replacement windshields though.
Ask your coworkers or something and see if they can recommend a small, local glass shop. Any "preferred vendor" from the insurance company is typically getting paid a "preferred rate" and that's about all that's preferred. I've had shoddy quality work from JN Phillips and good work from Giant (both large vendors). It depends on the motivation and the caring of the employees, really.
Also, if you can easily swing it, I would recommend dropping off your car at the glass shop vs having mobile service, because with mobile service, if they forget something that they need, they ain't going back to the glass shop. So if you are trying to be extra cautious, better do it on site.

request the oem as oleg said...also, the mobile vans are well equiped and i'd go either way...i've had prob 50 windshields over the yrs, not one issue...you shouldn't have a problem either
thanks for the advice... having them come to me is what I DON'T want to happen. I will drop the car off. I was afraid they would force me to use that type of service but first things first I need to call.

I think my decision just got easier.
After going back and forth and thinking about it this am I show up at the office to see a Porsche Boxter out front. Okay it's not new (a couple years old), but WTF. We all were required to take pay cuts (i posted it earlier, hence why the car mod's came to a stop) and the VP buys a porsche.
To top it off I got in an arguement with my boss over permitting for a project. He is basically telling me to fundge and lie about some information to get the project approved and I said I wouldn't. You can tell town staff what to do, you have to work within their guidelines and he can't seem to understand that.
Looks like the job search begins and I need to start figuring out what to do with the condo.

I went through something similar this year. They announced pay cuts, but the owner and the president both show up in new cars..

i think the only real windshield they will be able to use is the OEM because of the rain wiper sensor under the rearview. im not sure but OEM is the ONLY way to go. not sure if they even make a generic for this car.
Yeah but the sport doesnt have rain sensing wipers, so might be able to get away with it.

ahhh. me didnt know this. i drove mine out of the dealer and a mac truck flew by throwing a rock into my window within the first 1/15 a mile down the road from my purchased drive off the lot. i pulled over and was like...dude, are you ******* kidding me? i left it and it hasnt done anything in 2.5 years so far. :knock on wood:
where on the shore do your parents live and where do you work? I would not worry about the job hunt and the condo sale/rental being related events. You should do what you want with the condo (sell or rent) and commute from parents' house to current job until a new one comes around. Might be a long sucky commute but its for a good reason, and would only be temporary.
They live in Waterford. I did the commute from East Lyme to Farmington for about 2 years when I first start here, before I bought my condo. That makes sense. I never thought of that.
+1 very good point, plus it would relieve the stress of having to worry about the relative timing of one to the other.
