Unfortunately, there isn't any.
Just got back...with no truck.
The guy was nice, the truck was not. Just to get it registered in NH I would be looking at...
* Installing the wipers, they were removed and apparently have been for some time
* Repairing the holes in the floor as well as both rocker panels
* Repairing the parking brake
* Repairing the speedometer/odometer
* Repairing the blinkers, they worked but were lightning fast
* Figuring out why the brake pedal falls to the floor (he bled the brakes but that didn't solve it)
The drivetrain...
* Stalls at idle unless you keep it above 2k for about 5 minutes
* Engine/tranny is from a 79 RX-7, never rebuilt. He painted it, but not while it was apart.
* Clutch feels original, was slipping when I shifted under WOT 2nd to 3rd merging onto the highway
* Exhaust is custom...and by Custom I mean, one muffler and a whole bunch of straight pipe
* Tranny shifted fine but there was a bit of slop
* A little smoke after he revved it, and some back firing, but it ran clean on the test drive
The body...
* Every panel, except maybe the hood showed signs of love. I spotted a few of dents in the photos but they are everywhere.
* As mentioned, perforated rocker panels, mild rust in the floor boards
* The Frame was rust free and the underside of the bed looked decent
The interior...
* The photos show it was a mess, but there is more to the story...
* Heater doesn't work
* Radio doesn't work
* Radio bezel was damaged
* Other parts were missing
* Doors only shut when you slam them very hard
* Window crank missing
* Floor was covered in sealant to prevent further rust (same as truck bed)
The Test Drive...
* Standing outside, the truck is very loud. You have to shout to carry on a conversation near it while it idles
* Inside the car, you can talk, but its still pretty loud
* Brakes are non existent, you have to push the pedal to the floor before you get any feedback
* Gas pedal was way too close to the brake pedal so its a good think I pushed the clutch in when I braked
* Car rumbles like an old rotary up to about 3k
* 3k to 5k it sounds soooooo sweeet
* Clutch engaged OK, but had some slippage under WOT
* Crusing at 4k on the highway the engine got quiet, but drop below 4k and it would rumble again
* Steering was vague with significant dead zone even though he replaced a lot on the front corners
So why didn't I buy it?
This is a truck to run around town in, bring stuff to the dump, and pick up mulch for the yard...after about $1000 in body work is performed and probably another $1500-2000 in repairs. It will never be a show truck unless you hire a very experienced body shop to massage every panel on the car (which probably requires removing the cab and bed from the frame). I was hoping for a truck that I could work on over the next few years to get to show quality...but this truck just needs more cash than elbow grease. I do however like the REPU and I would love to own one. I may set up a search so I can be notified when others pop up but most likely I'd have to ship a rust-free one from California. Or maybe I should just go test drive a few 1st-gen RX-7s. I might have better luck finding one of those in decent condition.
