2002 Mazda Protege5
So i have a Problem with my Automatic Pro5.

A Few weeks ago, my O/D light began flashing, and my car seemed to be bogging, so i took it to mazda since it's under an aftermarket warranty, and they said it was the tranny so they put a new one in it.

Things were fine for 2 days, but now it's doing the SAME thing. I just changed the oil, plugs, air filter, and put fuel injector cleaner in it, so the loss of power is def. from the tranny. The owner's manual states that a "blinking overdrive light indicates an electrical problem with the transmission". I took it up to mazda today, it didnt come on, so the service guy test drove it and the light never blinked and drove fine! and had no stored codes. then on the way home (6:05, mazda had just closed) It did it again! How hard is it to clean, check and/or replace the sensors in your transmission? there only appears to be three, but idk which one is what.

Thanks for the help guys, and i'd let mazda have the car but i have no other way of getting to work everyday. and i need to have it fixed to drive to atlanta next thursday!

If they just put a new tranny in, take it back again! Make them give you a loaner, my guess is thats part of the extended warranty. My advice is not to mess with anything, and dont clear the codes until you can take it back there.

if the dealer did this, make them give you a loaner

I was in an 09 Hyundai Sonata for 3 days cause of the intake manifold recall and didn't cost me a dime

edit- just saw it's an aftermarket warranty

You'll prob have to end up paying somethign inthe end

but it's retareded 2 days later it goes out

I'd pitch a fit

Yeah i have a $100 deductible for warranty fixes.

Little update, when the guy from mazda drove it yesterday, he said to disconnect my neg. terminal overnight to make sure all the codes are clear. I did, and thismorning on the way to work the problem started again. Then on the way to and from lunch, it drove fine. so i called mazda and told the service guy that if it happened on the way home, i'm bringing it by to atleast read the code. And of course then my car drove perfectly fine on the way home.

My car is like a little kid faking sick until you mention the doctor..

Today's update.

Car ran fine all day, until i was on my way home from work. luckily i was right beside the stealership, so i left it on for the dude to read the code, and eventhough the o/d light was sitting there blinking, NO CODE!

and i realized that it's not bogging, it's starting out in Second Gear when the blink is going on. They're gonna take it on monday and give me a loaner to check all the connections on the sensors and the ECU. hopefully they figure everything out.

Jeg has his auto protege that is having close to this same issue

They also blamed the ECU

He has yet to figure it out yet

Really? The guy at mazda said if they dont figure it out, he's gonna call some engineers to check it out.

So i FINALLY got a CEL when the problem happens. Code P0771 - Shift solenoid E circuit performance or stuck off.

from what i've read on random forums, when this happens shops tell you to replace the tranny, and it doesnt help, and ends up being the PCM..

tranny didnt help me, i'm gonna have mazda test the pcm tomorrow.
