Need to replace front brake pads already?

:
22 CX-5 Turbo
Apparently I need to replace the front pads on the big brake kits on 2022 CX-5 Turbo. Got the kit installed last spring. Did not think the pads would wear down already after 15k-18k miles :(

Can't order from Corksport until Monday. Anyone know of a pads part number I could get from an auto parts store that would work? Just started to notice a random mild grind which is what made me check on them.

You determined that your brake pads need to be replaced, because you here a "mild grinding sound?"

Have you checked to see how much pad is left? I bet you still got lots.

You need to take your brakes apart and clean them, not replace the pads.

I could see my outer drivers side is down more than the passenger side and the drivers is where I heard the noise. Sadly I don’t have tools I used to in order to pull things apart.

Most likely there is just some dirt or debris stuck between the rotor and pad that you need to clean off.

Are you doing lots of high speed stops? Do you do a lot of stop and go traffic driving?

In my opinion, the wear you have with only 15k to 18k is a bit excessive. The only time I had similar brake pad life was back in my boy street racer days where I was braking really hard from high speeds. To the point where some times I can smell the brake pad material cooking off inside of the car.

The driver's side is more concerning because 1.5mm of pad is not much; assuming the measurement is accurate. I'm wondering if the pistons are binding up in the caliper bores or there is an issue with a rubber brake line collapsing preventing brake fluid to flow back into the master cylinder. The passenger side isn't that much better based off the measurement you're reporting too.

Just had another thought of another trouble area to check. Sometimes the caliper doesn't slide freely back and forth on the caliper slide pins. Check to see those are lubricated, don't have junk on them, and the caliper slides freely back and forth with just pushing and pulling the caliper by hand.

The pads were their more aggressive middle ground pad so not a street pad. But it also had a number of high speed runs with hard braking during the year and a mild track day. So that definitely added to the quicker wear.

My original rear pads went around 28-30k. Was not happy but i heard they are a bit small. Soon after the front were done.

Ive got another 30k on replacements with powerstop and have about 1/3 life left.

The uneven wear is one thing.

Follow up with what he said here regarding caliper health.

The amount of brake pad wear in such little mileage is far too excessive.

My original factory pads on factory rotors went about 60k miles. These are sport pads on a big brake kits so they wear much faster. Also a track day and then other high speed hard stops definitely wear them down faster. Corksport told me this morning that the mileage seems about right for the usage I put them through. New pads will be here Wednesday :)
