Need suggestion on overhead blu-ray player

Hi,

I'm exploring the option of installing an overhead blu-ray player system for my 2013 cx-9. Till now, I could only find DVD players so far. I've seen LCD monitors as well, but not sure if they can be connected to an external blu-ray player.

Any pointers on this will be highly appreciated.

- Thanks

How about an iPad attached to the headrest? That way it won't block your rear-view mirror.

I'm looking for one myself. This one in particular I like, but I want something to secure the iPad a bit more. In an accident that thing becomes a flying object.

Second that @Neil22, I tried the iPad route earlier , but didn't find a reliable securing mechanism. I recently saw a similar console in Toyota highlander, which is exactly what I'm looking for. Unfortunately, no luck yet.

Back2grave, if you're looking for a roof mounted dvd player, Crutchfield sells this:

At $599 it's pricey. If I went this route, it'd have to have at least one HDMI connection. Apple TV and a mini-router so you could stream from an iPhone/iPad would be pretty sweet.

I also found this solution for the iPad/headrest that has a bit more security.

I know it's not what you're looking for but just as a suggestion of what I did:

I got a cheap $19 media player off eBay and loaded up like 20 ripped movies on a SanDisk Cruzer Fit USB drive and hooked up three LCD panels

I was in the same boat as you, kids wanted movies on long road trip and I started looking at overhead LCDs and realized there were more cons than pros like: blocking my rearview mirror, kids had to look up high at an uncomfortable angle almost like sitting in the front row of movie theaters, looky loos on the road at night during redlight stops looking and staring in to see what movie is playing, and just the idea of drilling mounting holes and running cables thru the headliner without damaging the sunroof put a quick end to my search for an overhead console.

I went the simple route and zip tied a LCD panel on the rear vents (surprisingly it really didn't block the air flow!) also kids really never used the back A/C anyways, installed a small cheap 5 inch LCD into my daughter's booster seat and installed a LCD into the glove compartment, it all cost $100 total ! {$19 for USB player, $19 for 5 inch LCD, $30 for 7 inch LCD (qty. 2)} , this is soooo much better, the kids love the comfortable viewing angle and my wife can control everything from the front any of the twenty movies and best of of all no changing discs!

Unless you have multiple kids and need multiple monitors I would go the iPad route as well. It does a lot more and it's portable,

This is insane. I wish I could do all these but looks like a lot of work cut off. Just curios, did you do it all by yourself ?

Thanks all for your pointers. I think the overhead player no longer makes much sense, specially if I weigh in the cons.

For the time being, I've settled in with an iPad, wish could do something what avidien has done :)
