need soundproofing

Mine seemed to be about the same as intruders, $25isg for 8yards (25 square feet) which is approximately enough for 1.5cars worth depending on how liberally you apply it. I did both mine and my g/f's car, 2 layers under the front carpet section with that 70' THen bought another 5yrds to do hatch area and wheel wells. (which I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend) Riding in my friends P5 pisses me off now, it's soo damn loud and cheap-sounding.

As for where, yes, check homedepot. Here there's all sorts of carpeting stores, where you might have better luck as the stuff's like packing foam to them. They've got it coming out their ears adn don't really care toomuch about it. Hell the guy was gonna give me a whole roll of the stuff for $50 which was WAY the hell more than I needed. You might just check the phonebook and call around carpet stores and ask for Hartex-style matted yarn, or "synthetic" padding.

Here's a couple pics I grabbed while lining my rear wheelwells. Notsure if it helps anyone, but I just realized I never posted any of this stuff.

that looks good -- still hard to believe that something that thin can make such a difference -- im thinking of doing mine ----- but im lazy and dont want to strip the car again **pain in the azz -- lol

I used some of the high temp mastic sheets that www.mcmastercarr.com sells. You can get a 12 sq ft sheet for like $14 + shipping. I put it under the back seat after a layer of e-dead. It dosn't stick very well but it is very heavy and thick and has done a great job of cutting down the exhaust sound:) I think I will do the carpet padding next under the front seats.

See thing is I can't say if it's the padding or the mat 'cause I did both at once, I'd imagine they both contribute in their own way. And for wheelwells I wouldn't rule out vibration and resonance as the main problem. I'd have added 2 layers of it, but my panels barely fit back in place with just the one, infact it took a couple days for it to "compress" the padding enough to where the floor fit back in right. Also that stuff that I've got in the back is thinner than normal, I'd say about 3/4 the thickness of most stuff I've seen. I'm not exactly sure what the deal there is, but that's what they had.

for the mastic use a heatgun gets the glue going really for any sound damping sheets a heat gun is the proper way.

Just wondering after reading this, approximately how thick is the carpet padding? Also, in the link I thought there was mention of putting down 2 layers of the carpet padding. Is that correct? I really want to do the whole car to get rid of that tinny sound when you close the doors and quiet everything down to hear the stereo better.

Thanks,

tinny sound closing the doors, etc has alot mroe to do with panels vibrating, which would be better cured with dynamat-type stuff. I did 2 layers of it under my carpet upfront. which dramatically reduced in-cabin roadnoise. thickness It's pretty standard for most carpet padding I'd say about 1/2-3/4" range. someone stated it somewhere I can't recall where, though. But again, the padding filters out sound. Mat-type deadener reduces vibration, Actually, my doorsills are still off since i'm doing my kicks, IF I've got time soon, I'll go pull up the corner of my carpet and get a pic of what my floor looks like.
