2003 Mazdaspeed Protege
Hey everybody, i've got a 2003 MSP and im about to hit 100k in the next 2 weeks or so. I've already ordered a new manifold (thunder) because my stock one obviously is riddled with cracks (thanks callaway) and while i've got it up on the lift i plan on replacing the timing belt as well. I also plan on replacing the water pump, but that should be pretty standard. What does everyone here recommend for replacing along with the timing belt AND/OR around the 100k mile marker so i can go ahead and look into it and get parts before i have to take the time off work to do all this. Thanks a lot guys

:)

id get the gates timing belt and tensioner kit.the kit does not come with the tensioner spring id replace that also.water pump and me personally would do the oil pump while i was there.take a look at your drive belts also would be the ideal time to replace them.also make sure the adjusting bolts for the drive belts arent frozenthey tend to bend/break

brake fluid flush, power steering flush maybe wheel bearings ,wastegate, front swaybar bushings

oil change, transmission fluid, air filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires, pcv valve, coolant flush, i think that's about it.

also why your at it throw in some forged internals, just takes a couple minutes. Then take the vacuum line off your wastegate and go have fun lol.

Hey thanks a lot for the suggestions everybody, anyone have a favorite online shop they like to deal with that i should look into? Im thinking about ordering everything before monday.

Definately do the water pump while your working in that area. I also always replace the cam and crank seals. people always seem to forget they have seals there until after they start to leak.

Isn’t the water pump external? It’s been a few months since I seen under my hood; I can’t even picture it right now. So the water pump is run off the timing belt in the protgs?

No, but it sits behind the timing belt, and the belt must be removed in order to change the pump.

anybody know what site mazdaspeedp was trying to suggest, he sent me a pm as well, but i guess it blocks out urls or something on here?

well the only place i know of is cross over performance. anyone know of any other places to get a kit? cross over sells a gates kit which i believe is a really good belt though.

Ok, looking at buying this stuff tomorrow

Timing Belt Tensioner Spring MSP $6.00
Gates Timing Belt Kit FS
Item # TCK228+spring $199.00
Waterpump+gasket MSP $110.00
Exhaust Manifold Gasket MSP $15.00

Thanks for all the help, i'll be buying it from crossover performance unless anyone has any other suggestions

thats funny I suggested this awhile ago and I havent been on here in a while but ive been trying ot get a hole of crossover for the last 2 days to order my gear. then I come on here and you were doing the same thing. hopefully they have more than one in stock haha
Quick question. Am I going to need an exhaust mani gasket? do you need to remove the mani?
