this is going to sound really stupid but i don't care. what is a catback and axel back? i'm new to this so forgive me. is just in relation to where it bolts on? or is it something completly different

well a catback bolt's on to your secondary cat. and bring 3 pieces of piping.and u can get gain's out of a catback depending on what system u get tho

and an axle back bolt's on to your stock pipe , with mean no gain's out of that but with it you can have the option of making your own custom piping to get gain's out of it.

thanks alot guys. zath i love that sound. that is what i'm looking for. is the obx header and magna flow emissions legal? and did you get rid of the cats. and no turbo for now. maybe down the line but not sure on that one

I Think I'm Gonna Go With The Megan Catback Exhaust. I WILL PROBABLY GET THE OBX HEADER LATER ON. THANKS FOR THE INFO

The "cat-back" system bolts on to the secondary cat, thus replacing all of the piping aft....and the "axel-back" bolts onto the section of piping flanged where our cars would have an axel...but being FWD with an independent rear suspension, we lack what would be considered an "axel"...

either way, the axel back basically replaces only the stock muffler and a little over a foot of piping...the cat back replaces nearly half of the stock system...

Not true. An axleback will give you gains, the cat back might give you more though.

Full custom is the way to go. Genuine tuned length header, with high flow cat(or none, depending on where you live) and resonator, with custom mandrel bent SS tubing....

Also insanely expensive. Not really worth the time and money on these cars...

I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean. I love my Protege, so I choose to mod it in the best way possible, which is why I dyno every mod, and why I went with full custom exhaust. I'm also doing a custom header.

Lots of guys are spending a lot of money on these cars, and not too many are going to say it's not worth it.

gen1gt, so did u dyno after an obx install by anychance? if so whats the real hp gain? or if u no of any thread that has this info, link please!
thanks

I had an old 2.25" OBX twin outlet muffler on my car originally. When I decided to go up to 2.5", it was from the manifold back, with high flow cat, resonator and OBX muffler. I currently have a stock 2001 Civic muffler on my car, as I just couldn't handle the noise level anymore. Sounded great, but too loud. Anyways, but sorry, I don't have a dyno of just the muffler.

I'm not sure if his #'s would mean much - the car's different than a 3rd gen or p5. Though I could be wrong on this.

I've heard that the OBX has dynoed as high as 10whp gain. 5-8 whp would be a more reasonable estimate.
