Hi everyone,
I'm new the site, as I just purchased a Mazda 3 isport last month. I had a question regarding my passenger side mirror. The other day, I dinged the mirror on the side of my garage - I was so angry with myself, but glad no major damage was done. After I hit it, the outer shell behind the mirror popped off (it protects all the electrical wiring). I was able to pop it back on pretty easily, but some of the paint chipped off this piece. The size of the chip is only about the size of a quarter, but I want the car looking great since I just bought it. My initial plan was to just buy some gunmetal blue touch up paint to fix the problem, but after looking at the mirror, I wasn't sure if that would just make the problem worse, since it looks like the piece that I chipped is plastic, so I'm not sure if you can paint over plastic. I don't want to paint it and later regret it. I was hoping someone could tell me whether it's a good idea to paint this spot, and if not, where I should go to buy the cover that goes over the back of the side mirror (since that's the only problem, I don't want to buy an entire new mirror). What's the best solution here? Thanks for your help.
