Justs bought my 02 P5 and there is a wire that is not connected in the main fuse block under the hood. I see where it should go, but I need to know what it does first. there are mods to the car and I dont want to hook it back up if there was a reason why its not in. But i need to know what it is.

Mods:
SMT-6
GM map
AEM wideband

those are the only mods that need power

Car runs fine, Just bugs the hell out of me that there is a wire and I dont know what its for. I have the HUGE mazda shop manual and I havent found it there yet.

Thanks!

im pullin my motor now and i just pulled that wire today but dont remember where it came from, im not at the shop so i cant look, i do know it in the same wiring tube as my battery though, so im guessing it should be connected lol

thats what I thought, But it was like that when I got the car and everything works on the car and it drives fine. So Im at a loss

ill be down there workin on it tomo, ill follow that wire and let you know for sure, but if its disconnected then its on purpose or somebody forgot to put it back on, but imo its probably not important since it hasn't givin you probs.

it looks like it should go right there along the side.....probably another ground or something

hehe idk, Looks like a ground, but the left side of the main fuse is the power wire for the fuse block that goes right to the bat.

That would be great if you can trace it tomorrow and let me know where it does.

Thanks!!

Frank

any word on its job?

After seeing the pictures Frank it is a ground. Easy to tell since it isn't insulated like the wire on the other side. Putting it back shouldn't cause any problems. The previous owner might have used it as an attachment point for a grounding harness that was removed before you got the car. The voltage regulator in the alternator is controlled by the ECU. I'm not sure if that ground is related, but it could have something to do with the ECU not seeing the correct voltage and causing the alternator to malfunction. Even the smallest problem with grounds not being good can cause all sorts of weird problems.
