Hey guys I recently bought a 5 speed protege that needed a little work. I got it driveable and the same day the CEL came on for EGR insufficient flow. Took the intake manifold/EGR off to clean it out and also found that the EGR valve was sticking. I cleared all passages and unstuck the valve as best as I could.
When I started it after I reinstalled everything the car would not idle. There was also a loud hissing noise from the engine compartment. It was running very rough while I held the rpm's around 1000 rpm's, would rev pretty smooth with moderate throttle, and would die as soon as I let off the pedal. I took everything apart to recheck my work and did not notice anything.
I replaced the IM gasket, TB and EGR valve gasket. It's still the same. The hissing noise is coming from somewhere below the throttle body area it seems. I tried spraying carb cleaner around the area but could not find the leak. (scratch)
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
