NEED Elec HELP ASAP!

(thumb) i knew it was working, it was just hard trying to get you to be patient enough and "play" with it. :D

Good to see it working.

dude WTF.

i have never heard of "jumping" a gauge before, but sure enough, it ******* worked. instead of having everything hooked up and then starting the car, i simply had two sets of live wires, one from the gauge and one from my W/B.

i started the ******* car and hit the pairs together, and NOTHING. i was like FUICK, that was my last hope.

then i started sending morse code with the pairs - the gauge went BRRRRR bang bang (the needle hitting 100-0-100-0) then boom, up to 43psi.

pat, i must admit, i was doubting you, but now i know if i have a problem, i just simulate those heart attack paddles and i may be all good.

yes. the signal it gets from "jumping the gauge" will cause it to "re calibrate". thanks for being patient.

I'm not very electrically inclined so I'm having a similar problem. I'm trying to install a Defi A/F Ratio Gauge on my P5 and need some wiring help.

The following are the connections I've made so far.

White (Illum.) - Blue/White wire on dimmer switch
Black (Ground) - Green/Black wire on dimmer switch
Red (12v constant) - Fuse tap to cigarette lighter
Pink (O2 sensor) - Tapped underhood sensor wire
Orange (2nd Ign) - Black/Red wire under leftside of steering column (Not sure if I got the right wire??)

The gauge isn't working or getting any power at all so I'm assuming my connections are wrong and/or my ground is bad. If I have a bad ground, will the gauge turn on at all?

Appreciate any help/suggestions you can provide.

No instructions - that's the problem. All it gives you is the wire designation for each wire, i.e., Orange - 2nd ignition, Red - 12v constant, Black - Ground, etc. Unless this is what you are referring to as instructions?

I'm thinking you're right and my ground is bad and that's why it won't even turn on. I'll find a better ground and see if that works.

Appreciate the help.

Did you use a multimeter to figure out which wires to use? The ignition wire is described correcltly. I am not sure about the ground wire, I would make a new ground connection of my own. Also, do not use fuse taps, they suck at best. Wire the positive wire to the black wire in the same bundle you found 2nd ignition in.

I have no clue on the o2 sensor wire.

Turns out my ground was bad. I also had to move my White (illumination) wire to a different wire on the dimmer switch. Now it works fine! Can't dim the gauge with my dash lights, but that's okay since I never dim them anyway.

Thanks for the help/suggestions!
