Need an opinion

Hey guys here the deal. I have the chance to pick up an 04 srt4 with only 2,800 miles on it for 17K. It's already got the mopar stage 2 kit, aem intake, and mopar blow off valve kit. Would you trade your speed in on it? I'm up in the air. I REALLY want the power. Would like ot hear some opinions. And I know a couple of you guys have both cars and would like to know what you would do in my situation. If I do this I'm probbably going to have to do it tomarrow or it will more than likely be gone.

I like mine, but I don't think I'd trade the Speed for it. Even with Stage 2. You should just buy it as a second car. It is a really good deal though. It did good at autocross, but it really doesn't handle as nice as the Speed. The seats are really constrictive on the thighs and probably not too good on long trips.

It is built pretty well, it is the most solid Dodge I have owned (99 R/T Neon, 99 Dodge Dakota R/T 360, 92 Dodge Dakota 318).

Now that my Speed is running right, I really, really enjoy driving it. The SRT is nice, but it certainly brings out the immaturity in me.

Plus I would not buy a car that was used with Stage 2. That only screams reliability issues. We are getting Stage 2 here pretty soon, but at least I know where the car has been.

But that is after the Hotchkis swaybars, Hotchkis springs, Tokiko struts and different tires and wheels (all required to make the car handle as nicely as the MSP).

P.S. My brother was driving the MSP and I was driving the SRT up HWY 26 (6.8 degree uphill) in third gear and he pulled me in my own MSP! However, that was likely gearing. When you hit the 14 psi in 3rd, 4th and 5th it really feels good.

ill take the motor, tranny and turbo... but other than that i'd stick wit the speed :) But honestly thats a good deal in temrs of numbers but when u think about it 2,800 how was it broken in? Chances are that if hes got those mods and S2 that earily he was prolly beating the car. 17k is REALLY good just try and find out why he is selling it and go from there. BTW-what color?

You mean a MOPAR stage 1 or Stage 2. is it the one with upgraded PCM and bigger injectors. Stage 2 has just been released yet and its uber expensive for what it is.

I say go for it...sounds like a good deal.

Ask yourself this...are you a straight line drag guy or a well balanced, handeling road course kind of guy? I see way too many SRT-4 in my part of town...so I dont have much interest in them.

Ok guys I guess i got some info wrong, its the stage one with the injectors and ecu. I know the guy who traded it to the dodge dealership, he just traded it yesterday. I know it was well taken care of. The guy is almost as anal as me ;). He needed a truck.

I just cant decide. Oh and then theres the thing of breaking it to the wifey, she always gets stressed out when I want a new car.

Did he trade it in for a srt10? I would keep the speed though because yea the srt4 is faster but I think the msp owns the srt4 in all the other categories like looks and handling.

nope got a quad cab.......go figure. I've just go tthe power bugg damnit!! Guess it doesnt help that I test drove a used evo today either!! LOL

well are you selling your msp? Find out how much you can get for it first, if lets say you can ge 15 for the spped then 2k more for the modded srt is a good deal IMO i'm personally a man of change so a good deal like this i would probably go for. you can always get the MS6 when it comes ouT! BTW- WHAT COLOR

Well, I will say that the Dodge trasmission is crappy. It is really notchy to the point that I had to check the fluid levels because I thought they had forgotten to fill it. It is way noisy too. The MSP trans shifts way better. Search srtforums to see all the transmission complaints. The 04 comes with the Stage one injectors and the WOT boost feature. The ECU is different though. A lot of dealers tell people that the 04 has Stage 1 on it from the factory. that is not true. Stage 2 is $1300 witht he "Toys" and from what I have read it is worth it. Variable boost control, adjustable timing advance for race gas and boost controlled ic sprayer. 265hp and 280ftlbs is nice too.

I would take the Tranny too...I think anything is better then ours. The engine is okay...2.4L is really about torque more then anything on a 4 banger.

Reason why I like the tranny is the LSD. Just give me the LSD and I will be one happy dooode. Quaife LSD stock on the 2004s. WE all know that the tranny isnt crap since it held up 500 hp pretty damn well.

The clean shift on the MSP is mostly due to a short shifter...try that on the SRT-4. And new fluids of course.

And $1,300 for stage 2 goodies isnt really worth it. What only makes it worth it is factory warrenty. All it is a crappy "dial" neonish knob boost controller, IC spray, new wastegate actuator. The only thing that makes the stage 2 worth it is the new Stage 2 ECU which has the 100 octane race fuel map switch. The other stuff is super cheap to make if not buy. I dont even think a custom tuned PCM is worth that much. IC spray and maybe a dual stage boost controller arent worth the $1,300 or more (local dealer wants more). I do think they do replace the sensors...so maybe taht justifies the cost.

Another SRT rumor. The Stage 2 IS NOT covered by the factory warranty. This has been covered several times before. I plan to switch all the fluids out to synthetics soon and install the MP short shifter. But I doubd that it will shift as well as the MSP. It's something you have to experience I guess.

What is wrong with the LSD in your MSP? Just because it isn't a Quaife? Until you break yours, it's good enough. The motor is better definitly, it was built right.

Stage 2 does come with some other things, like the 3 bar MAP, PCM, injectors, TIP sensor, a perfect fit switch panel for the toys (which looks cool), wastegate....

And I like the fact that itis engineered by the people who built the car.

I guess depends on how long you want to keep the car and how bad you want the power. SRT4 is obviously more fun in the sense of power & possibility for better mods. But its not as good in all other department (looks, handling, build quality, interior, rarity...etc.) If you are keeping your car only for a few years before switching something new, then SRT4 may be a good way to go. But otherwise, stick with the MSP. It screams as a collector's car. I have a feeling that you'd be more proud as a MSP owner than a SRT-4. I know I would.

The SRT does not turn heads like the MSP does...
