NASA National Championships

:
2010 Mazda 6s
Well, I'm registered for the NASA National Championships. I'll be running my Mazdaspeed Protege in TTE. I'm lucky enough to live 45 minutes away from MidOhio where they are holding the event so I have had 3 weekends there already this year to learn the track. As a result I have the current record lap time for the class. I'm pretty much certain there will be a new record at nationals whether its by me or someone else. Three days of track time running for a national championship. What could be better than that?
Anyone on here going out to compete or spectate?

I've heard that Road America is a fun track. That might be one I try to go to next year as well.

Goodluck! I've been thinking about running in TTE next season...

So far the car seems to be a good fit for the class. Just be careful with your points. My car is fairly mild and I'm right at the limit. I think TTD with 100 more horsepower or 200 lbs less would be a lot of fun too.

how is NASA different from SCCA?

They are the two largest racing organizations. They are very similar. The main difference I see is that NASA makes more of an effort to bring new people into track driving with their HPDE and Time Trial programs which can be done in normal street cars. SCCA concentrates much more on wheel to wheel road racing and has a small time trial program. For autocross SCCA is very well established and NASA is just starting out.

Saw your car at summit this past weekend (8/26, 8/27). Looked good

Yeah, that was me. I was getting my final events to qualify for nationals. I was running on street tires since I was the only one there in my class. Time Trial seems to be pretty small in the Mid Atlantic region. That was actually nice because the track was wide open in our run group. We drove with the HPDE 3 guys in the morning and it was insane. 25 minute session with maybe 3 corners at a time without being stuck behind someone or having someone pass me.
Were you there driving?
Stop and say hi if you're at another event.

I was there for HPDE2 driving a black civic hatch. This was my first NASA event but have been going to FATTs at Summit for about 6 years now.

My friend in the AI '66 mustang (#70) finally talked me into driving a NASA event. It was fun, although the skill level in HPDE 2 seemed very broad. I've heard good and bad opinions of HDPE3.

May try time trials in the future. Would like to race HC, but I'm not sure I have the dedication money and time -wise right now.

Are you going again in October?

I was watching at turn 10 when the BMW took out your friend's Mustang. I was glad to see he didn't have to come into the pits and the BMW did.

I probably won't go back in October since its a 5 hour drive for me. I might change my mind if there were some other TTE cars going.

haha... whats the guy say, "flick it"? nice videos as usual. they make me want to go out to a road course some time.

Heh, the in-car video of that incident is fun to watch. It could have turned out much worse.
