NA Tech Race to 100whp per 1000cc's

OUCH! Sounds painfull(blarf)(boom02)

hahaha - don't you have an engine to pull apart or something ;) back to work! :P

in other news guys - i'm HALF TEMPTED to allow rotaries play in this race... I'm just trying to work out a rule concession to make it fair...

i could do the "double displacement" rule - but i'm not sure... would 260whp out of a 13B all motor still be too much of an advantage to the rotary guys? should i just drop the idea and keep it piston all motor cars?

I say just keep it piston powered. It's already pretty confusing with everyone's tips in here, adding the rotary will just clutter things more. Plus like you stated, which HP number do you pick for them?

Dont the 3rd gen RX-7's and RX-8's already have around 175whp stock? We have to come up with an extra 100whp so maybe you can add a 100whp to whatever whp the rotory's come with stock.

Something that I dont think has been covered in this thread yet is Electrical Theory. I mean pushing a car this hard, would the ignition system need to be improved. granted I'm using a different platform, so different things would apply. Anyone know any good sites on Performance ignition theory.

I'm pretty sure mechanically speaking everyone knows what is needed to reach the goal. Well in theory anyway.

that's a great point. I know on the JIC Drag car they had what looked like individual coil packs for each spark plug. I'll dig up a picture.

yeah it looks like a variation on a coil over plug setup. For the 200whp you could probably accomplish this by using a toyota coil over plug setup and just make sure your tuning softwar can handle the switch.

Is there a Theoretical "best" ignition setup, or is like everything else.. like to get alot of "A" your gonna loose some of "B"

I'm asking Cause ignition is a subject I have barely begun to look at and its obviously a very import part of any good setup

theoretically there isnt much power if any to be gained with a modern coil over plug design

Maybe not with the electrical by itself, I'm talking more along the lines, if I build an engine that reaches this goal will a stock system be able to keep up with the RPMs, load, stresses that come with something like that.

upgraded wires will definately help. There was an issue of GRM where they were doing dyno tests with an RX-8. They put the Nology wires on it. It didn't show any HP gain, but the dynometer was able to read the signals ALOT better.

how do you get the best spark?

correct gap in your spark plug and using a coil over plug where each plug has its own coil and you more or less eliminate any kind of spark wire in the first place.

The main thing you avoid with using a coil over plug design is you eliminate the high resistance spark wires. Ever take an ohmeter to a spark plug wire...it should read in the kilo to mega ohm range because it has to be that high to drowned out any electrical noise

a coil over plug should be able to keep up with the rpms load and stress of a 200-250 whp engine hell hondas do it on a cap and rotor style system all the time

nope but it seems like it just creates a hotter spark. with the limits of what your looking for on this build the proper spark plugs and using the stock ignition system should be more than enough honestly. Focus more on the control of the iignition. And if your using a protege upgrade the grounding system as its pretty poor
