Replacing 2018 CX-5 Front Sensing Camera (FSC)

Has anyone has any experience replacing the FSC on a 2018 CX-5 ?

My son's CX-5 suddenly came up with the malfunction message on the dash. Using an OBD reader it came up with the code U3000:04 which is related to an FSC internal malfunction.

According to what appears to be a related TSB 15-002/19 the FSC needs replacing with a newer version. So off to the dealer we went to get a price to see how much they are to replace .. currently around $1750 (CAD).

Hmmm don't want to spend that much .. so we got the current part number of the FSC in the vehicle (KDD1-67XCX) and what looks like a date on it 10.12.20 (not sure about that though .. if that is correct being a 2018 vehicle was it already replaced !?). Did a quick search on E-Bay and found one out of a 2019 CX-5 part number B61L-67XCX-T for $110. Then did a quick search and it appeared that one in theory should work. So we ordered it.

Now for the fun part .. after multiple searches today there are numerous part numbers for these camera's and I'm not sure if I've jumped the gun on which one to get. Numerous Mazda part sites have part numbers with various "Supersession(s)" but some contradict others .. so I'm totally confused.

Then I started finding out about the 'installed' FSC software which from what I can gather is sort of the firmware for the camera itself .. or is it something coded in another module of the vehicle !?

And finally in the Mazda manual it mentions about cleaning the camera lens itself. Any idea what we should be using for that ?

And to top if off is a calibration required .. I assume it will be ... not just an unplug old ... plug in new/used .. and go
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mazda CX5 2018 Part number fit for FSC: B61L-67-XCXP
Supersession(s): B61L-67-XCXW; B61L67XCX; B61L67XCXP; KDD1-67-XCXB

All the part codes above can be replaced for your car.

Thanks for your response.

I'm still confused with the part numbers and the mention of 'Supersession(s)' on various part sites

On this site it mentions the part we purchased from Ebay 'B61L-67-XCXT' and it says that is Supersessions 'KDD1-67-XCXB'
Part Number: B61L67XCXT
Supersession(s): B61L-67-XCXT; B61L67XCXS; B61L67XCXU; B61L-67-XCXW; KDD1-67-XCXB; USEB61L67XCXT

Yet on this site it says that 'KDD1-67-XCXB' Supersessions 'B61L-67-XCXT' and by the look of it B61L-67-XCXV, B61L-67-XCXW

Part Number: KDD167XCXB
Supersession(s): B61L-67-XCXV; B61L-67-XCXJ; KDD1-67-XCX; B61L-67-XCXM; B61L-67-XCXP; B61L-67-XCXW; B61L-67-XCXN; B61L-67-XCXK; B61L-67-XCXE; B61L-67-XCXT; B61L-67-XCXH; KDD1-67-XCXB; B61L-67-XCXL; B61L-67-XCXU; B61L-67-XCXF; B61L-67-XCXG; B61L-67-XCXS; KDD1-67-XCXA; B61L-67-XCXR; KDD167XCXA; ; USEKDD167XCXB

Does anybody have any clue how these part numbers work ?

Also this appears to be the TSB related to our issue ...

@SummersFam daithuongha is a spammer (quite a stealthy one at that) and the account has been banned. The spam link has been removed but the posts remain (as they may contain some useful information).

Hi Antoine, I had my suspicions .. Thanks

Same questions still remain.

Though we did speak to a local Mazda dealer who seems to think we can plug in a camera and just get the calibration re-done.

He also suggested using isopropyl to clean the lens of any used ones.

Unfortunately they weren't much help in regards to part numbers

We tried replacing the camera which took around 5 minutes (using the used one we purchased).

New codes came up .. which is good compared to the one code we were getting which indicated the original camera was toast.

Unfortunately I think we need a more advanced scan tool that allows the resetting of these new codes.

One of the codes indicated the car was not happy that the camera was from a car with a different VIN :)

Hi--can you tell me if the used camera ultimately worked in your CX5? Were they able to get the codes cleared regarding the camera belonging to another VIN? I ordered a used camera so hoping it will work

Hi there, yes we were.

My son was training to be an Automotive service tech and was able to take his CX5 into college to work on it.

I'll see if I can get more details on what he did. But yes it worked and has been fine since.

Really? Dealer quoted me $700 for camera and $250 for calibration. i found one on eBay for $75
and was wondering what was needed for calibration

To physically replace the camera it took about 5 minutes. You have to remove the 2 pieces of plastic covering the camera, unplug the electrical connection to the camera and then unclip the camera tab/s and slide it back .. then reverse to fit the new one.

For amending the camera VIN so that it is matched to your car VIN .. [this you may have to investigate more]
Go to ... https://www6.b2b.mazda.co.jp/AsBuilt/AsBuiltSearchPage.aspx
Then enter in your vehicle VIN, click submit
Click the 'As-Built-Data - PCM&BCE' option
It will give you a list of BCE Modules
Apparently on the scan tool that was used they were able to do something like Electrical > FSC (Front Sensing Camera) > Programming and had to enter in values ... these are related to the BCE Modules codes from the web site and would have a corresponding id / value

For the calibration he used a Scan tool and used options [again you may have to investigate more] .. electrical > camera > dynamic calibration mode.

Hopefully that is of some use

When the camera VIN was changed .. you will have a new fault code saying the camera is un-calibrated .. apparently this message appeared on the dash.

And it took around 10 - 15 minutes for the calibration to finish while driving around.
