we are looking for 200whp not 200 crank hp
230-234 depending on what percentage drivetrain loss you use
about 150 crank hp
drivetrain losses are usually in the 15-17% range maybey a little lower for a FWD so just take your WHP and multiply by 1.15 to give the rough crank HP
I have an auto......
so more toward the 240 range or so

You've got some work to do if you want to compete - essentially the gearbox is going to shift at where it shifts at, unless you start modding the valve body and so forth... RPM is one of the things that is going to insure big numbers come out of these motors!
i'm thinking of getting the JDM FS-ZE motor with the manual trans, ecu, and lsd... i'm wondering if this would be better than just putting FSZE internals... where i dont know where to get because FSZE produces 170hp stock... the same as the Mazdaspeed!!!

FSZE wont push out 200hp at the wheels.... and if you are going to go to this expense, you'd be vastly better off getting after market internals (FSZE isn't the be all and end all, after market rods for example are going to be stronger, and longer which will allow you to run higher rev limits etc, after market pistons will allow you to specify what compression you want....)

Has anyone considered a high performance custom transmission to get the job done? That's the one thing I haven't seen on this forum, but it's a major component to going faster.
Yes i have, and no i wont do it. Reason being mines still going to be a street car.
I could get something like a G-force drag racing box, or a xtrac 6 speed sequential touring gearbox and adapt them to the mazda bell housing, but not only are these boxes worth more than the car itself, they are not overly "nice" to drive on.
Things i've been considering are some serious hardening of the G series box (welded diff, straight cut 3rd, gearbox shimmed up like nothing else to keep it tight, gearbox cooler, chryo treated gears etc) and modifying the shafts to accept triple cone synchros (to help with high rpm gear changes).
The other idea would be to lift a gearbox from a K-series honda engine...but these are cable shifted and i hate cable shifters....
Other possible donor boxes are being considered, but i'm leaning towards alot of G series hardening at this stage.
the order of doign things isn't overly that critical, UNTIL you start playing with internals
if you do rods, you'll do your overboring, any crank modifications (if any), and your pistons all at once, to save tearing the thing down again.
You'll probably modify the oil pump too.
And you'd be advised to do your head work at the same time, although this is perhaps not as critical...
new valve body will tighten up your shifts, header/mid pipe will provide more horse power - both increase the fun factor... i say, flip a coin.
