NA Tech Race to 100whp per 1000cc's

i'll just use my bro's car, which is technically mine, when the transmission work is getting done, so no problem there

i know i want to increase my drag time asap... i gotta keep up with all my other friends... i seem to be representing Mazda... man... i need to get a MazdaSpeed
but until then!!!

increase your drag times? improve don't you mean?

what sort of times are you chasing?

a 200whp NA rocket with a modified gearbox setup for drag racing joy would certainly be quick....

14.5 has been done with bolt ons... and the only guy with a decent NA build went out there for 1 pass with a slipping clutch and got so close to 13's it wasn't funny.... mind you both of these cars were manual trans.....but we've discussed how an auto can be built to work better for you.

I reckon even with a sedate NA build you could push our cars into the mid to high 13's.... full blown NA build could see you nudging low to mid 13's consistantly... if you want quicker than that, you're going to have to look at a turbo or some happy gas....

14.5 with bolt-ons... neat!! i'd have to find these bolt-ons... so no internals... im know you have to get pullies, but what else? my bro's rsx-s ran a 14.6 with only a CAI

too many to list, and not really on topic for this thread...but

a DECENT header, 2.5in exhaust, CAI, microtech, drag radials, custom camshafts, light weight rims, and some agressive weight reduction were the key.... light weight pullies are not critical....

thats before things like head work, intake manifold and so forth are even thought about....

hmmm
i think i'm going to try this
going to be alot of work and money

how many auto guys are trying to hit this?

winter is here time to pick up a winter beater and start working on the car

maybe 1 or 2 guys with auto's giving it a go...auto guys have a real battle to do it, but i reckon it would be great to see!

I'm building my forged motor this winter!! In fact, I may be picking up the donor motor this week!

awesome! we want details!

i want someone to throw the first punch in this battle... some photos, some plans... something :)

once we get a few people actively participating, i think it will egg more people on :)

Lol, since it's a 1.8 I only have to hit like 183.99 hp.

I'm shooting for over 200 though. I'll post pics from the time I pick up the motor to the day it hits the dyno.

Set up your own build thread (keeps this thread a bit tidier...i may go through and do a bit of a cleanup/move some of the posts which are off topic), and post the link to your build thread, i'll keep an index in the original post....

that way people can comment about your build, and we can all look at them through this thread too =)
1.8L 200hp rev monster will be awesome :) good luck

Why would longer rods help in revving higher if you're not changing the crankshaft? You're still making the same stroke.

Why would longer rods help in revving higher if you're not changing the crankshaft? You're still making the same stroke.

for a few reasons.

Longer rods = reduced side loading (less stress on the rods, pistons, and cylinder walls)
longer rods = reduced piston accelleration (but same mean piston speed)

Of course, reducing the stroke as WELL as increasing the length of the rods will further improve the engine's reliability at higher RPM, because you would also be reducing mean piston speed over and above the reduction in side loading and piston accelleration.

Heres a link, with some principles outlined, and a nifty little spreadsheet you can download and play with:

I've seen several comments about the microtech. What kind of management does it do? AIR, fuel, complete engine? Or are there different levels you can purchase depending on needs? If I were to get something like that, should I switch ECU's? I see quite a few turbo MP3's selling there ECU's and trading with a P5 owner or MSP owner.

microtech is a stand alone, although we wire ours for parallel operation with the stock ecu.

microtech controls fuel and timing (with adjustments for air temp, water temp etc - also 3 outputs and 2 inputs, so youc an control your fans, VICS and so on). Standard ecu is left there to make sure all the gauges etc still work.

if you get a MT theres no point switching the stock ecu for a "better" one...because stock ecu will no longer control fuel or timing.

How much does that run. I saw a guy on here asking 1200 for an AEM EMS. Any specific EMS you recommend?

I run a microtech - bought it locally - but the AV's have them for sale with base maps for the US spec car - talk to turfburn about one...

i use and recommend microtechs because they are cheap, and have all the features i need. Some people don't like them because they are not as feature rich as other units....

Have a look at either a microtech LT10S or a haltech E6X

thanks for the help. Great information. I've spent hours reading the theories behind your plans. It's amazing the dedication you seem to have to get this done. I may, but as I've stated before, being 6100 feet above sea level, it's hard to have a fast car with no air. I would definately like to tune my car some before I go supercharger though. Just to see what it can do with some NA tweeking.

hmm... saw a good deal on a mp3 near my city... that means i get 10more hp!! and a manny tranny!! its still the same pistons as the P5 and such, right?, so i just need about... 90more whp?

that should get me a little extra step towards this race!! i'll just transfer my CAI to the new one! and get rid of the exhaust bc it comes with RB
