Mazda...uh, something
Well, m friend with a 3 was going to sell me his stock 17s when he gets rims, so he came over today to test fit em to see if they would work.
They look great, but unfortunately it wasn't very hard to get them to rub. I could hear the front rubbing slightly on hard braking, and the rears(especially the right rear when taking a hard left turn) were making some really bad noises Ive never heard before...More like metal to metal than rubbing the tires. So basically they arent going to work unless I get new tires for em...But i dont like the rims enough to justify that, so I'll just go with aftermarket rim/tire package.

205/50/17

you cant really see the edges of the tires in the pic, but the rears are fully tucking, and the fronts are DAMN close!!!

wheels

with 205/40/r17 tires do you think they would fit well?
How about with the 205/50/r17 at stock p5 ride height? (looks like your car is lowered)

i think 205/40s would fit...

There is already one person(maybe 2) that have these rims on a stock ride height P5, and they say they have no probs.

Mine is lowered about 2.25" and it wasnt working at all(shrug)

How about 205/45/17's with Racing Beat Springs? Anyone know if there will be any rubbing???

I would say no...RB springs are a VERY minimal drop and 205/45s are a bigg difference from 205/50 ;)

so stock-ish (1" drop) ride height and the mazda3 wheels and 205 50 17 tires will not rub?

for a 17 rim 205/40's are the best fit for maintaining the overall stock tire height.

Ray 204/40's will fit if the offset is the correct number 45 or 48, nethign smaller like 42 liek i got (bang) will rub.

Although i am not rubbing one bit,

U can't have 50 on 17" for a P5. Our stock 16" came with 50 so wouldn't it make sense to get it about 45 or 40?

according to my calculations, stock size diameter at 195/50/16 is 23.7 inches. with a 205/50/17 size, the diameter goes up to 25.1 inches. that might be your problem. you now have an inch and a half increase in excess rubber. going to a 215/40/17 size is 23.8 inches diameter, so that's as close to a perfect match as you're gonna get plus it offers a bit more width for increased contact patch.

problem is no companies make a 215/20/17 sot he best route is a 205/40/17 if you're trying to keep the same diameter...personally Id go with a 215/45/17 for cntact patch and comfort.
