Hi!

I purchased a 2002 Protege5 about 6 weeks ago. I just did the mod that allows your windows to operate without the key in the ignition. Nice! While in the fuse box by the dead pedal I noticed a toggle switch that didn't look factory installed. I followed the wires up to a black box mounted behind the dash and more wired are coming out of it to a red LED. One switch position has it on constantly and the other position has it flashing. Beside the fog light switch and coin holder is a block with an empty hole in it and that is where the LED was shining through. There are other wires coming out of the mystery black box and heading up into the steering column.

Does anyone know what this could be for? Is it part of some mods that a previous owner may have done? Any thought os suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

mine has the same led hooked to an after market alarm. It was causing starting problems, so I removed it.

I searched 'mods on the cheap'. Under the topic with that title, in the 4th post, there are links to a couple of inexpensive mods. I hope this helps.
