my windshield cracked!

woot!
money!

excellent news.
now i feel much more confident going to the stealership and asking them to replace it.
good news!
thanks guys....

i'll run the pen through it later today and make an appointment right away....
now if it is a chip and i have to replace it, any recommendations on a national glass repair company?

nope nothing. i am a slacker.
but thanks for checking. i 'll do it tonight. i promise...
i should get on this right away, or im gonna get caught with my pants down...

dammit. no good news here.
i ran a pen through the crack like you said. i actually had a hard time keeping the pen in the crack, for a while i thought maybe the crack was on the inside.
i wne t through the whole thing (not the whole thing, cause the beggining of the crack was below the wiper blades) twice and i couldnt find a "hit", but then i tried to go below the wiper blades, and the weirdest part of it all was that i felt the "hit" right under the f-ing wiper blade. How does that happen? how does a rock chip get under the blade.
I am pissed.... now i am going to have to pay it out of pocket...
I may try to bring it to the delaership anyway but i dont know if they find it is not stress testing, would they charge me for labor?

it wouldn't hurt for you to "play stupid" and ask them to replace it?

i play stupid very well too, thanks!

:bs: there is no "playing" going on everyone is just far supperior to your back woods vermont/peruvian living ass...

lol hope it works out man

dammit!
i wish there was a TSB on our weak ass windshields. they are so weak, anything that hits them chips it.
I am so not happy about it. Im making calls right now to check on prices.
more info later.

this was one of my cracks..

Yeah the glass in the Protege line is the worst. I have gone thru 5 winshields in 4 years and 4 months of ownership. They almost always start at the bottom edge like Lisas. Its frustrating driving on the freeway. Even my new widshield has 3 chips in it.

hmmm my crack looks very similar. I found a huge chip towards the bottom of the crack though, it is so bad you can feel it with your finger and if you are not careful you could probably cut yourself....
do you still think they will just replace it?

I doubt it. Windshields are oneof those "breakable" non warranty items. One of the benefits of driving a low car. Theyll say sorry its not a manufacturing defect its a trait of glass. I dont know the price of the glass for 3s but for p5s it was like 360 labor and all. glass was about 220 from Japan. Mine used to always start about 5 inches up from the cowl right next to the a pillar. Same spot 3 times in a row.

yeah thats what i figured but it seems some people have had luck getting replcaced through warranty... there is no loss in trying.

UPDATE:
There was a huge chip on the windshield crack, so the dealer was not going to replace under warranty.
I called different places about replacing, and found one that is charging me $170 for the windshield including installation at my workplace. I think that is a good deal but i was wondering if there are different wuality of glass. Are they all OEM or can tehy have their own glass cut to the specs they need? It seems like they could do it on last minute notice, so they must have it in stock; but could there be a quality issue? should i be worried about it?

From all the windshields ive been thru i have noticed differences in quality. Its all about the clarity of teh glass. The cheapest one that i bought wsa pretty hazy, little teen tiny bubbles in the glass. But you only notice that when you are driving into the setting sun. But thats just been my experience maybe im wrong. But i do like the OEM ones the best.

yeah thats what im thinking.
im going to the volvo stealership tonight for the moment of truth; if its a no go, i am calling the windshield guy tomorrow.

so whatever happened with your windshield man gotta get that taken care of before it gets to cold up there in the north...
