My TTD build thread

awesome build man!! i'm the guy that bought your other cage!!

how's the empire shifter? are they still around?

what're you making the splitter out of?

Thanks! I hope the roll bar worked out for you.

The Empire shifter is great. Much more definite shifts and the height and throw are a lot better than the stock one. I would definitely recommend it. I have been terrible about getting back in touch with Eric so I'm not sure if they are still around but I'm pretty sure they are. PM eric on here, his user name is EMPIRE.

The splitter is made out of hardwood plywood (birch) and lexan for the air dam section riveted to aluminum angle iron. I will be welding steel sheet metal tabs for mounting with turnbuckles.

I'm about to go out and work on this some more, but here's some of the progress I made this morning:

This one's a little hard to see with the clear lexan, but it shows the fit:

Made some more progress tonight. Right now the outer two front brackets are complete. The center brackets are made, but I need to make the mounting tabs on the bumper. Then I need to make the main mounting bracket and an air dam to run under the radiator support and if the ducts and tubing make it here in time, install the brake cooling ducts..

wow. looks great man! wouldn't it be the same basic idea by taking say the dg lip and putting a cf splitter on it?

except not as low to the ground (to maximize the ground effect), not as cheap, not as easily replaceable, not as easy to make, and probably not as durable.

Great job Bill! I know you have Rob already looking in mirrors already for 2010.
+1 On the shifter by Empire, it is far superior to the OEM one, just the perfect height and the feel is incredible.

I know he is working on some new products for the Speed 3/6's.

hmm. i pmed him.. but is this shifter better than the kartboy?? that's an awesome shifter.. i had the b&m, it seemed very much like this empire one...

I have the Mazdaspeed one in both of our 6's, (B & M manufactured them) and the Empire one is just as good from a quality standpoint and fitment as well.

Dollar for Dollar, it can't be beat!

Almost done, I just need an airdam piece for under the radiator.

I'm going to have to sand down the airdam and repaint it because the top coat reacted with the base coat.

I went to Mid Ohio this weekend to test the car with the aero. The bad news is that I broke a rear antiswaybar link in my first session, but the good news is even with the broken link and the car understeering pretty badly, I still ran close to my previous best times so with everything working this car is going to be fast! I tried one session without the rear wing and it was pretty scary under braking. The rears locked really easily since there was nothing holding the rear tires down. All in all a very good weekend.
