My Own $18000 challenge

What do you guys think would be the best car performance wise all around that i could buy for like $18000 ,it could a stock car for 18000, or something cheaper then with mods be 18000 but it has to be under 18000, anyone want to put there 2 cents in?

Oh and performance I mean , Power, acceleration, handling, and braking, I'm not looking for anything like 12's but something I could easily get in the mid 13's to low 14's range.

I have been looking at a little older M coupe, you know the ones that look like the Z3 but have fat fenders. And I like anything with the 4g63 Mitsu motor, maybe a Mirage Conversion? Need help fast.......................

daily driver is fine, tune it correctly and you can run low 14's with it as a daily driver, maybe even high 13's, mines almost in the 14's and its an AUTOMATIC, and its daily driver for 5 months so far and runs fine, if it was manual it should technically be low 14's since stock the automatic is 1 second(maybe little more) slower in the 1/4 mile, but im starting a manual tranny swap tomorow so we will see!

preowned SRT-4....or 200sx/240sx with a sr20det swap

My only 2 choices I would have.

i love your car, i wanted to do that, buy a 200sx or 240 and put in that motor, but i decided to just turbo my car =) i might still do it once my car is done

with a 200sx what all would I need for the whole conversion to the the SR20det? Arnt the 200sx FWD, and the SR20set comes from a RWD, I thought I heard there was a FWD version, is it called the bluebird? Oh and what type of numbers are you running, WHP,TQ,1/4? Thanks

ya, im pretty sure you can buy the sr20det in a FWD version, i researched this alot a while ago(like 1 year ago) so im not positive, but all you would need is the motor im pretty sure the tranny bolts up, those engines are very strong and can run high boost levels stock...ive acctualy seen rx7's with that motor in them lol

or you can spend alot of money and get a rb26dett in a 240 sx lol now thats a beast, although you need the entire drivetrain and stuff(its expensive)but might be under that 18k pricetag if you find the car cheap..

I really like his RedRims 200Sx , i will look into that , just want to know how much he has put into it?

So do you think the mitsu 4g63 motor and drivetrain out of the evo 5 would be too much and put it in a mirage?

well, the sr20det swap is cheap, thats why its awesome, im not sure about the 4g63 motor swaps into mirages, but im sure it can't be TOO expensive but i personaly would rather have the 240 or 200sx with sr20det, i think the 200sx's look better when done up like redrims's then 240s

I am headed over to cardomains site to check on some 200sx's and mirages damn, maybe i should just invest this 18000 and then in a couple of months copa lancer, but its burning a hole in the banks safe.

Honda CRX (look for the 2nd gen HF Model) B18 Hybrid w/Turbo & LSD, well under your $18k limit.

2nd Gen HFs are very Rare and not worth the weight Savings.....The reason it weighs less is because it has Smaller Hubs up Front, as well as Aluminum Drums in the Rear along with Lighter Impact Bumpers, and No Rear Interior.

Now to do a Swap you must change the Hubs to Si/DX which brings the weight right back up......

A CRX would be a good Choice, Light weight, Easily Modified and Handling is great. On the other Hand they are Older cars that are hard to find in really good shape depending on where you live.

Another option is an EG(92-95) Hatchback......Same benefits as the CRX, but newer and easier to find in good shape....Drop a GSR w/ LSD and a Turbo on there and easy 12sec Passes.....Drop on a Suspension and you have a Very well rounded car.

On the Colt/Mirage Subject, you best bet is to swap in a USDM or JDM 4G63 from the DSMs or GVR4.....It makes the Swap easier.....The Motor an Tranny themselves bolt right up but the Wiring is a PITA, but not impossible. My Old Co Worker at Mach V Motorsports had the Swap in his Colt and it was a little Demon....Running 13s on 14psi(Stock Turbo)....

Downside, it made the car rather nose heavy, not unbearably so but enough to let you know it was there.....It could easily be compensated with a set of Higher Rate Springs...

I suggest you check out www.4g61t.com for more info regarding the Swap.
============

Personally I think you should bank to Money and buy an Evo....I had the pleasure of Driving one for an Entire Weekend while a Friend of mine(The Owner) borrowed my truck to move into his new place. That car is awesome.....Worth every penny....Handling is Superb, Steering Response and Feedback are beautiful and gobs of power whenever you need it.

If it were me I would buy the Evo :D

Dean,

In my cars current state(Untuned) and running on Stock Cams(Dohc ZC). I should be pulling Mid - Low 14sec 1/4s......but I dont Drag Race so I really dont know.

Come Spring I will take the car to the Dyno and drop my Big Cams in and have the car tuned. As of right now the Stock Cams are having Trouble with all the Extra Compression.

Drop me a PM if you want to know more Info.
