My New 71 Datsun 510

The hole in the pillowball bearing is too small for the strut to slide in. The threads go in of course, but the smooth top 1.25" section of the strut insert is too large to fit. I will take a picture and show you....

Also the hardware that came with the plates is obviously not going to fit anything.

In the 2nd pic the hardware on the top was the included stuff, the original 280ZX nut is on the bottom.

This is pics of my bro's he got two years ago. It was stolen last year. Apparently someone wanted it more than him. It's Mustard Yellow with an SR20 swap (non turbo). Magnaflow exhaust, with plans on carbeurating. He put Konig Rewinds on it with some super soft tires. That thing f*&%ing flew! It was a blast to ride and drive in. It also had limo tint.

if you and your buddy start posting in all the forums around for 510's, I am sure someone will find it. Stolen 510's have been recovered around....
I believe most of the datsun forums have a stolen section.... if not make one.

start with dimequarterly.com , ratsun.net and the 510realm.org.

than get lojack.

I hate that some people have no conscience and would take a car.

Don't know man, my teins fit perfect. The only thing I can think of is either trying different ones. Or finding somebody with a lathe and maybe mill the strut down to the size of the bearing in the CP. If I was at home I would take some better pics, the two I have don't show it good enough.

Do the ground control coilover kit spring hats have a sleeve that the threaded top of the strut insert slide into? I saw some pictures tonight of some coilovers that had a small sleeve that protects the threads from the CP bearing, and the nut just threads on from the top.

I read in that same thread on the510realm.com that people running ZX struts have no suspension travel. I figure the strut is 2.5" shorter than the 510 strut, so I dont see how that is possible. some guys were complaining that their or their buddies 510's only had 1" of suspension travel.

dude, that's awesome. These cars can get turned into serious machinery. Lisa obviously has no clue.

I am aspiring to turn it into serious machinery. Right now it is Suh-low. My barely modded Protege would tear it up from a standstill.

ah well, then... well... I am too! that's it! (joking that is)

and i like how the camber plates look vaguely rotorish...

Never thought of that, rotorish!
I always thought 240sx/ 510 camber plates look good compared to some of the hideous things made for other cars.

oh, you done brought it! I was the unwitting tool.(uhm)

I love those Datsuns. Sweet find man. I see them a lot in the streets of Manila when I was growing up in the Philippines. Go JDM

arrrrgh. anyone have a set of 14x7 or 15x7 w/ a 4x114.3 bolt pattern and +15 to +25 offset so I can get my brake project rolling?!
Even old Z wheels in 14x6 would work....

Update:

NOt much, al of a sudden I am getting 25-28 MPG in the Datsun where I was getting 20-21 on average and 23 at best. I didnt even change anything. I Seafoamed it a while ago, but it didnt do much since the engine is only 13K miles old since the total rebuild.

An old boss of mine who I am friends with thinks he has a couple sets of 44mm mikuni sidedraft carbs and manifolds that I keep asking him to find. I think I could get them for about next to free since he kinda owes me.
That and 2.25" exhaust all the way back (~200 with a magnaflow muffler and conservative tip. at a local shop) should improve the mileage mre.

who would have thought of huge double carbs in a little 1.8L engine could do as much has they do?
