My MAZDASPEED 1,800 mile report

Today, my MAZDASPEED has been in my ownership for 1 month. What a great car! By the time I arrive home this evening, I will have over 1,800 miles on it. It's so much fun, sometimes it's hard just to go home in the evening, and park it. Even though, my journey is about 24 miles each way. I can't get enough of the fun behind the wheel.

I know when Spring / Summer arrives, I often, will be taking the longer way home! Ha!

As far as issues; nothing major, really. I went to the dealer yesterday so the service tech could look at my scratched steering wheel logo. They are ordering the entire airbag assembly, as there is not a part # for just the Mazda logo emblem. Yeah; I think that's crazy!

Performance wise; the car is quite strong, and I feel absolutely no (possible) degradation in the performance as I have read another owner post on another thread.

I have all the settings the way I like them on the Kenwood, and yes, I still have to wonder what the deal is with the speaker grills under the back glass, that contain no speakers. As I stated before, having not seen an MP3 close up, I don't know if that rear panel is a carry over from the MP3, or just what the deal is. No matter; I really like the Kenwood system.

A 'clunk' in the rear suspension, I haven't really noticed yet; but if it does occur, I feel confident my dealer will make it right.

I have ordered the K&N Cone Filter for starters, and I think I will go ahead and order a boost gauge, possibly the:
Blitz tt-dc 2 turbo timer/boost gauge/lap counter.

http://www.import-store.com/blitz_timers.htm

I don't know how much I will really use the turbo timer, considering I use my garage, and obviously, your garage should remain open when the car is running. Ha! I guess, really, only after hard runs. But; for about $125.00 with the boost gauge (and lap counter), it's a pretty good deal. While I was at the dealer yesterday, I went ahead and ask the tech about voiding the warranty if a boost gauge, and turbo timer were added. He said: 'No Problem', which is what I thought, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

To summarize; this is the most fun car I have owned (possibly with the exception of my 1976 FIAT 124 Spider). I have no regrets, and am looking very forward to a long future of fun with my 'SPEED.

where are you getting that blitz TT and BC too. 125 bucks seems cheap. Then again I have NO idea about BC's.

Any troubles with the Blitz's?

Greg,

Since you live in TN I thought I would ask; do you ever make it over to Deal's Gap near Knoxville? I usually do 2 trips down there per year with the Miata Club. It has to be one of the best places to drive your car. The route we drive is Route 129. It is 11 miles long and has 318 curves. It is called the tail of the dragon for obvious reasons. It is a haven for sportbike riders and and sports car enthusiasts. We will be there over Memorial Day weekend and then the national Miata event is always the last weekend in July. I think the MSP would be very much at home on this road. It is the most challenging road that I have ever driven. If you haven't been there, you need to check it out since you are so close. It is close to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. It is a nice long weekend get away. You can get more info on it at www.tailofthedragon.com

it only needs like 3 wires or so i think, so wiring it up shouldnt be hard, the only problem i am having is finding exactly what wires to tap into and where they are located

Dex: Check Britt's (122 Vega) site. http://www.geocities.com/kiva75/
I think he has some pretty good pics of his install.

actually, ive been to britts site a couple times. his pictures are too small for me to see what hes talking about. maybe some arrows pointing to what harness the wire is located in would help.
this weekend ill have a go at it myself to see what can i discover.

Dex: This is pretty good.....

Also: 1st MP3 in NH has some good wiring diagrams under:
Protege Forums - Protege Alarm / Starter Wire codes!

My crew is planning a visit/road trip to Deal's Gap this Spring/Summer. Have heard plenty of Good stories about those 300+ turns. I will be installing the Blitz DTT this weekend myself too. I will try to take some close up shots...Later,

Excellent! Some good pics in addition to Britt's (122 Vega) photos, would be great. I think I'm about to order the Blitz DTT, also.

Jonny: That sounds like a plan. That's the other side of the state from us. My wife and I spent our honeymoon in Gatlinburg, and we were actually planning on going back in March. A trip over Memorial Day weekend isn't out of the question, either. We need to stay in touch about this for sure!

What does a turbo timer do Sounds interesting might put it in my msp

it idles your car for you so it can cool the turbo down and you dont have to sit inside.

to let the turbo cool down

otherwise all the oil which cools the turbo will not drain out of it and over time excess oil left in the turbo while not in use can lead to deposits that can clog or decrease how effective the turbo is.

at least this is as i understand it......

on a side note my mechanic suggested that I switch to synthetic oil as soon as i could. He recommended going back to the dealer for the 1500 mile oil change as i was supposed to and then at the next oil change to switch over to synthetics. He said that with synthetics you dont have to worry about deposits building up in the turbo thus there is no need for a timer or to idle
