It's the heat in the turbo that cooks the oil which makes the deposits. Idleing the engine keeps the coolant flowing through it to take out the heat. Though the MSP is supposed to be set up to allow the coolant to flow through the turbo without the engine on...thermal siphon, I wouldn't trust my turbo to it.

Running synthetics helps because they take much more heat to cook them and form deposits. And they are more resistant to gum and varnish breakdown, again due to heat. They also flow better under extreme cold, so there's less wear at engine startup in cold climates...like Toronto!

I was sold on synthetic oil the first winter I used it in my Asuna. No more horrible valve clatter or ticking, and it cranked over much quicker in extremely cold weather. Its worth the extra money, especially for a turbo engine, IMHO.
