The Master Plan

Performance: 2.5" turboback exhaust and some basic engine management (something like an AFC, not going all out. I'm only looking for 200 RWHP, I'm already at 180 with the FMIC & intake)

Exterior: scrap the stock spoiler, replace it with a *SMALL* CF wing. Like 2-4". NOT rice because the car is RWD ;). Subtle/simple red vinyl stripes on the sides; something like the NISMO stripe but obviosly not that. Cross-drilled rotors & red painted calipers. Replace side mirrors with smaller, CF ones. Not doing a CF hood because the stock hood is aluminum and is already quite light. Of course if I found one for a great price or somehow got a whole bunch of money, I'd get one :)

Interior: Hard Dog "Deuce" rollbar, black, center mounted supports (pic). Pull out the stock double din 6 disc changer. Replace with a simple but good-quality head unit (something like a mid-priced Alpine perhaps). Single-DIN dual guage holder above the radio. Boost and wideband O2. Modify the stock oil pressure & water temp gauges for more accuracy (there's instructions out there, it's fairly simple). Replace stock front speakers with 6.5" components (looking at the Polk/MOMO 6.5" components, but still very undecided). Build a custom box for a single 8" sub that will be molded onto the rear deck between the seats. Make a piece of fabric with the "Miata" logo embroidered in red, with velcro attachments to help conceal the sub when parked. Pull the spare tire, and build a false floor type enclosure for the amp(s) (haven't decided on whether to get a 2 channel and a mono sub amp, or to get a 4-channel and bridge 2 channels to drive the sub. Space is a minor concern as the spare tire well isn't huge, but it's plenty big for some leeway with this project). Red neons under the seat or dash.

That's all I can think of for now. Everything is definitely a possibility as the entire project shouldn't cost more than $2500-$3000. Of course it will be built up over time.

What do you think? Any comments, suggested additions/deletions/subsitutions, or complaints are wanted :)

-I would go with 15" 16" wheels
-AFC is a POS
-if you want to change spolier I suggest the factory 99-00 spoiler
-Why cross-drilled they do nothing that the factory rotor wont and will tend to crack quicker
-plan on getting a HT?? new bar out that will work with HT's check www.miata.net

Hehe....I forgot about this thread. Unfortunately nothing new has been done yet, I've been doing the 'responsible' thing and paying down my debt. I bought a pair of 6.5" Polk/MOMO components but that's it...and they're not installed (won't be until I at least get a new head unit, as the stock stereo is some crazy 1.5-ohm speakers or silly crap like that).

Yup, I just bent some of these rims in a construction zone on the PA Turnpike last weekend. Tired of dealing with the crappy roads...17" wheels on a Miata require some pretty low-profile tires. I found a 15" wheel with a similar look to what I have (black, 'mesh-spoke', polished lip), so I will probably end up with that. What I lose in looks I gain in ride quality, performance (these wheels only weigh 13lbs each), and practicality on the horrid roads in NJ and its surrounding states.

They're not quite as good-looking as what I have, but they will do. Luckily, since the Miata is a small car, even 15" wheels can look good.

Going to buy them with Hankook RS2 205/50/15 front, 225/50/15 rear.

So, here's the plan for the first half of 2007:

New wheels & tires (http://www.949racing.com/index.asp?P...WPROD&ProdID=9). Total cost: ~$1,000. I have a claim pending with PennDOT concerning the damage to my car while driving on their highway. If it goes through, this will be a "no-cost" purchase.

Stereo! -- The stock stereo crapped out for the 3rd time. Same problem as the last two times....radio works, CD changer doesn't. Won't play, load, or eject CD's. I'm dealing with just the radio for now. When I am ready to buy a new head unit, I am getting the stock unit replaced under warranty, and then immediately ripping it out and installing the aftermarket unit. That way, I will have a working stock stereo if I decide to go back to stock and I'm out of warranty.

Exhaust, or at the very least, downpipe.

These *will* be done by July 2007! After that, I will look into the other items as I see fit. Ever since I started working in Manhattan and taking the train to and from work every day, my Miata has not seen much mileage. Maybe 500 miles a month tops. I am lucky enough to live within walking distance to the train station in my town, hop on a train, and be in Manhattan in either 1 hour (local) or 40 minutes (express), and then be within walking distance to my job. The train is so much faster and more convenient than driving. Driving even without traffic takes 50 minutes at my normal highway speed of 75-80mph. With traffic, forget about it. The train doesn't have to deal with traffic, plus its top legal speed, which is regularly attained on the express, is 110mph.
