yeah, this really needs to be addressed soon. i have to drive an hour and a half away to have my dealer look at it and now i don't feel like i should trust a dealer to look at it. i bought mine 05/07, wondering if it's still an issue on the later mazdaspeed3's.
I bought mine the same month of May. Seems all the MS3s that have had failed mounts have been in the August - November 06 area. I went with an aftermarket mount and haven't had any problems, but now that I read it's the bolt, not the mount itself it still makes me nervous.

Actually they say the bolt gets loose then shakes and makes it shear off. Not sure what mount you replaced but there isnt one on the market that I know of for the driver side engine mount.

Have checked my bolt before and did just now again and its still fine. My build date is much later though at 02/07. The area around my bolt is 100% clean of rubber and there is some read stuff in the area most likely a type of thread locker.

Apparently its a MFR deffect where the rubber around the mount area poured onto the bolt mounting surface so that when the bolt is put tight there is this rubber under the head of it. When the rubber goes bye bye you now have a loose bolt which allows for vibration then it shears off. There was a big write up on this that can be searched and there are pics.

Also from what I understand the Japan recall is to fix what I just mentioned by clearing any over run rubber and retighten the bolt ect.

I dont think that has much to do with this, there is no fraud here.

Its a first year car and s*** happens its just BIG s*** in this case. A recall is what needs to be done but not sure why it wont happen.

What build date is yours?
Please file a complaint with NHTSA!!!!!

Whats up man thanks for the link I couldnt remember the exact letters. As for the build date, I dont have the car to go look at it, but I looked before and I think it was 8/6/06 I bought it on 10/19, I remember my VIN fell in between the ones that were having this problem, I was very concerned, I took it to my dealer with papers printed from here showing other peoples experiences, they said they checked, then I would hear a slight clunking noise, took it in again and they said it was fine, last week it got really bad, I was scheduled to bring it in tomorrow because they were all booked up last week, as you see it didnt make it..........

now that's true love =p

I'm still going to get the ms3 though...because I already felt in love with her...i'll live with her imperfection =p

No offense to nobody in here,
Actually, that's about as offensive as you could be to people here, since this is the Mazda3 section.
its just like a SRT-4 and a Regular NEON, just a Big Engine,
...same recipe as the MS Protege...
with these Ugly ass Mazda3
Again, offensive, your opinion.
They Discontinued the RX-7 to produce the RX-8
No, they discontinued the RX-7 'cause it got too expensive for the market at the time, got lousy gas mileage and couldn't pass emissions requirements.
in my opinion the Mazdaspeed Protege its way Above in every aspect compared to the MS3.
Good for you. I'm sure you'll find people who agree with you in the Protege section of the forum.
...better suspension, better sound system, better brakes, lighter than the MS3.....
...2/3 the horsepower and torque, no room to modify without blowing the engine, the clunk, ugly ass ricer wing on the 03.5's....

Look, this thread is about a member who's having trouble with his car. He didn't ask for anyone's opinion about the MS3. You coming in here and talking s*** isn't helping anything, and is probably something the admins could call intentional flaming, and give you a nice 24-hour ban for.

Man... I hope they at least acknowledge they f'd up. I would totally flip out at the shop foreman for this nonsense.

Since there's still a lot of confusion, can someone shed light on how many engine mounts are on the car, and which of them is the one failing?

I thought it was primarily the transmission mount, but the way people are talking about replacing the rear engine mount makes me wonder if either a) people aren't sure what they're talking about or b) its more than one mount failing.

I haven't heard of any aftermarket package to replace all the mounts, but it seems some distributors are working on a solution.

In case anyone isn't sure what their build date is... its posted on the panel by the driver side door. I haven't heard of any broken mounts for models assembled in '07, but time will only tell.

These are private forums. Freedom of speech isn't required here.

W/E, your post was inappropriate, off-topic, generally out of line, and fairly offensive towards 'Speed3 owners. I just thought maybe you should try thinking before posting.

Freedom of speech refers to the government's suppression of you, the individual and is not a right to say what ever you want on a forum. You can only say what the administrators of the forum have allowed under their provisions.

Hey Buddie Feel very Sorry about what happened to you and your MS3, here you have a Direct Mazda Customer Claims Department number, where they do really take it serious about problems like these. 1-800-222-5500. my advice if you want them to listen to you... you have to change a little the story here and tell them, you almost had a very serious accident and that you warn the dealer about this issue several times with no success of repairing and fixing these serious issue from. I can Guarantee you buddie, that theyll do anything for you not to file a claim. what you can really do is to put a big ass claim to the dealer that sold you the car and actually servicing your car. you can freely do these at this number i just gave you. Trust me. Ive been there and done that, and they do listen, and more when its about a freaking engine falling that can cause serious injuries or death in a accident give it a try and youll see what im saying...

Wow, dude I apologize, I know this must suck. I think its that little nightmare all us MS3 owners have in the back of our heads. Hopefully everything works out for you and Mazda can step up and fix this issue. Please keep us informed of the results of this. Tomorrow is Monday and I would hate to be the local dealership there. Give them hell. I agree 110% with how you feel about the service people at Mazda, they DON'T care at all. They just say, "bring it back when it happens again." And, in this case its too late. I think they should pay for your tow as well.

There are three mounts. One on top on the passenger side. One on the driver's side under the battery. One on the bottom rear of the tranny. The one under the battery is the one that is failing.

The only on currently commercially available is the bottom mount. It is not the one that fails, at least not catistrphically.

Sorry to hear. Glad you were not going fast. Anyone remember the ol car/days when your throttle could stick if the mount came loose?? Now I'm dating myself.. Down right scary since I am considering going with a MS3. What do you guys think would fix it in a recall? Stronger mount bolts? An add on engine dampening system? Somebody in aftermarket should be all over this soon if not already.

Those who have had this failure I would like to know if they looked under the bolt head and found rubber on the mount surface?

They say this is what causes the failures and mine is clear as can be with it looks like 2 washers or spacers under the bolt head. I have no way of supporting the engine weight to check if its tight but all looks good as of now.

My friend has the same build date of 08-06 so I will check his as well and report back what I see.

The fact the dealer we told to check it then it happened they are pretty red handed on that one. However like my dealer and every other one they arent going to start checking it just cause we say so there has to be a recall. Mine told me dont worry its under warranty so they wouldnt check s***.

Personally I stand there and wait for the mechanic and watch as well as ask questions if he doesnt mind. I dont like hearing from a window clerk what the mechanic did.

Good luck, with the car even though you are a boner. LOL.
