my car stalls

This isn't luck ot just a new car issue. htis is an unexcusable problem and I know first hand it can put your life in jeapordy. I'd Expect this crap from Deawoo not mazda and this kind of crap is why I will never buy another Mazda.

I am not trying to be a jerk but how long have you been driving manual? It is just weird that it would jerk forward when you shift, and randomly stall when you shift. I am hoping this is the case bescaue I would hate to see another one as a lemon. Just as a little comfort you might have a bad clutch/flywheel and not the car. Also it is rare for you to have another lemon, 1 (2 if you count the other one as stated above) out of 2000 is very very small chance of having one.

I have heard that if the BOV is not clamped (i.e. the end plastic melted) it will cause a leak.

If it's leaking, this could cause your stall :(

which end plastic?

my speed stalled 2 times like yours. i was going downhill, and i have a habit of going to nuetral and using the brake instead of downshifting. the car stalled. steering locked up and everything. i took it to the dealer and they said there was no boost leak or anything. i havent had the problem for about 2 months, only happened 2 times. so maybe it is happening to more people than we think. it only happened when i was in nuetral. o well.

damn....ive had my speed for about 2 months and havent had any problems like that.

i dont understand why there should even be problems like this....what...did mazda hire monkeys to program the ECU using Connect 4 or something? :wtf:

I'm also having this problem!!!(hmm)

I've had this problem since day 1. My dealer checked for leeks, didn't find any. They changed the AIC (or something like that), didn't solve the problem. Then, they were told by Mazda Canada to boost the turbo to 10psi... of course, didn't change anything (and they brought it back to 6.5psi). They now ordered a new PCM and they hope it will solve the problem...

And yes, it's very dangerous.. happended to me once while exiting the highway in the middle of a curve... very scary when you loose power steering!!!

Also, I noticed that if I accelerate slowly, at around 4000rpm the engine chokesfor a very brief period of time, as if it doesn't have enough gas... anyone had this problem?

Yes to pretty much of all that you described. I'll be takin' it into the dealer thinkin' its a BOV leak or an air intake leak. I also get the slow acceleration at around 4Krpm w/ a small hiccup. Let me know what else others might think to tell the dealer when I take it in.

i have the exact probelm as well.. i described in the previuos posts..
now if we can get more on this board i am going to print it out and bring it to mazda with me...

it is frustrating when u try to get it to happen.. it seems the car just run smoothly..
except it tried tro stall on me once tonight.. seems like it was out of breath for a aplit sec.. then it returns to normal. my clutch was engaged..
and i tried holding the clutch on the highway.. and no it doesnt goes to 0 rpm.. and i figure it stall be4 the rpm goes to 0.. coz i dont hold the clutch that long when i shift anyways..

Hmmm...

Do you mind me asking what kind of gas are you using? I heard of this problem when people are putting octane 89 or lower. You have to use 91 or higher octane other wise you get problems like this. Remember, your running turbo, you can't put anything less. If that's not the case oh well

I have the same problem... except only happens when my rpm is above 3000 and then i shift it into neutral and let the rpm drop... and only happens on a hill... i kinda solved it by braking the car slowly down to like 2000 or below rpm before i shift into neutral when i have to stop for a stop sign or something...

I haven't been able to push the turbo yet, (only at 390) but I did take it a lil above the 3K range yesterday briefly, and maybe it was my shifting, or maybe it was the problem you guys are describing, but there was a loss in the boost.

Hm.... can we say recall mazda?!

always 91 octane or higher.

I'm using octane 94 most of the time and when I can't find any, I go for Octane 91, never under that! Anyways, the gas octane isn't related to this problem because it would happend even at idle.

If you guys aren't too sure if you have this problem, try this:

For the stall problem:
Accelerate over 3,500rpm in any gears and press the clutch pedal. If your RPM falls under the normal idle (600-800rpm) to somewhere between 0 and 150rpm, you've got this problem.

For the "hesitation" or "choke" problem:
Accellerate smoothly in 3rd, 4th or 5th gear from 3,000rpm to over 4,500 rpm and somewhere around 4,000rpm you'll notice this problem. If it goes smoothly, your safe!

.. I keep getting problems with mine! The windshield cracked yesterday (they will replace it under warranty) and I notice yesterday night a noise from my left rear suspension... and it wasn't the "clunck" from the sway bar.
