Mustang Convertible: Why not?

Wait for the new camaro, 2010 RS LT Camaro, 300hp 3.8L DI VVT-i 6 speed manual.

I'm really impressed thatthe V6 Camaro delivers most of the horsepower of the V8 stang and probably better mileage to boot.

I almost don't see a reason to get the V8 camaro....oh wait. yes I do: 400+ horsepower! :)

but still, the V6 would most certainly be an option.

that new hyundia Genisis looks pretty nice and it has a 3.8L V-6 with 306hp 263tq or a 2.0T with 223hp and i think a lil over 200tq, no vert avaible though, but they look pretty sweet and come in a RWD and a 6 speed.

I think its a 2.0T but you can get a turboed I-4 in it

6 speed manual with a dual overdrive using cylinder deactiviation with di and vvti, i would not at all be surpsied to see over 25/30mpg out of the 6 cyl camaro.

I've had 8 Mustangs and 2 of them were 6 cylinder ('84 V-6 & '81 straight 6) and believe me, the V8 is worth the extra cash! But I feel ya with the little one in the backseat...no room.

The last Mustang I had was an '01 GT, and the handling was horrible. My '02 Pro (even when it was stock) would leave that thing going around a corner.

wow, I would not have anticipated the P5 having better handling than a RWD stang GT.

can you elaborate on this a little?

I'm not sure about the P5 though...I have a ES Pro...

Honestly, I've taken my Pro around an off-ramp at more than twice the speed limit (not saying ppl should, I'm just sayin') and it stayed planted, with the stock tires and suspension. I've driven my GT 'Stang around the same corner, and I could take the corner almost at the same speed, but my confidence was definitely higher in the Protege. Maybe it was the rattling in the rear, the squeaking...and any imperfection in that corner seemed to upset the balance of the 'Stang very easily. Oh btw, the Mustang didn't have the independent rear...live-axle ftl. If I would have sprung for (or waited for) the supercharged Cobra with the independent rear things might have been different.

That's the exact reason why the Mustang's handling is poor in comparison to other domestic muscles like the 'Vette. Live axle works great for straight-line racing, but it's a nasty handicap on the corners.

C'mon and go get the drop top GT already. Maximum Motorsports has everything you need to make your Mustang grip to your hearts content. bad tires, poor road surface along with the wrong approach will make any RWD V8 swing out around the corners.

...and cut off the roof? Do people even read any more?

Convertibles are not safe for kids or momma.

Do you not read anymore?(wedge)
Or do you have no regards for their safety?
I know there's no way in hell my daughter is riding in a convertible. But appareantly I care more about my family than you do yours.

Your smartest choice for a family fun car would be a Speed6. Convertibles are overrated, and lose their appeal about half the year. I have had 3 verts now, and they are fun sometimes, but a PITA the rest. Definitely not good for a family.

Oh, and if you drive a vert' V6 Stang you'll automatically be a giant douche bag in the eyes of almost every dude in Virginia, and you most likely will be hit on daily by gay guys. But if you're okay with that.

You obviously have no idea who Foolish is. And I'm glad I am not a member of your family. Our Miata is not a PITA and it is driven all year long.

Yeah, and I'm sure your Miata fits 3 people like he wanted.(cool)

You would love to be part of my family. None of them work, and get everything they want. My wife doesn't work, and has gotten 2 new cars in the last 3 years. And none of them drive old P5s.

IMHO my family is living the American dream.

Anyways, it was a poke at him for being a douche. I knew he wanted a vert, I think it's a stupid choice for a family. I would sure as hell trust my Speed6 over your Miata in a crash, especially with my daughter in it. But hey, if logic and common sense doesn't work for you, just keep thinking what you do. I mean there's no chance of ever crashing or getting into a wreck with the children, right? And I guess I am stupid for not wanting my child in a vehicle that if it rolls over she could lose her head, right?

The intelligence level on this board astounds me.

p.s. Also, there are the douchiest people on this forum.

Who's the douche? A thread starter who clearly states his wants and preferences in a car or a poster that makes a suggestion ignoring that information and then questions his car choice and devotion to his family when asked if he read?

Last I checked it was purely a matter of choice logging on to this site. Maybe you should go to place that is full of people that suffer from your problem. A place full of other people with a juvenile level of emotional intelligence would be well suited for you.

most of your comments on this site show who is the biggest douche on this site...

Please tell us, how does one get to the status of knowing everything like yourself?

If this place is such an issue to you, then move on. Most, if not allof the members here wont notice your absence.

The only douche I see here is you, Joe.

You singlehandedly managed to submarine this thread. Your posts are obviously out of the original scope of the thread.

If your way of life was perfect for everyone, than everyone would aspire to be you... And I don't know about everyone else, but taking pot shots on the internet at people who disagree with your flawless ways isn't my idea of perfection.

I award you no points, and may god have mercy on your soul. I'm also issuing you an infraction warning. It turns into a 3 point infraction if you don't keep your mouth shut.

As for this thread, carry on as usual.

I've had a Miata for over a year now and I love every second of it. My little roadster makes me happy and I'll drive it until there isn't anymore petrol on the planet.

Joe,

In all seriousness man, I know you love your family, but its not right to say that someone who puts their daughter in a convertible loves them any less. I don't know if you're having a bad day or what but just chill for a second man. Take a breather. The original poster is looking for a family convertible so aybe something like a used lexus SC430?

How cheap can those be had now a days, plus, its a hardtop so thats safer in a roll over.

If done up right, they are classy rides (if a little on the soft side)

RWD and V8 if I remember correctly.

First off, I fail to see the point of insulting someone by calling them a douche. IIRC, a douche is a tool with which women clean their vaginas. That seems like a really odd insult, but maybe that's just me.

Secondly, it would probably be best if a mod just deleted everything not having to do with the OP, Knox being an ass, or not being an ass, has nothing to do with fun, family friendly cars.
