MSP vs SRT-4

Boost gauges are not needed for stock cars, it is more of a eye candy toy from factory. The MKIV Supra's never came with one....

Yeah but Supras BLOW!!! hehe. But Serious why would you even ask that question? Ok lets break it down! Spend your time at the dragstrip - get the neon. Have fun with the handling beast (for stock dont get me wrong) get the MSP. The Neon is a Very badass car except for the open diff. Why not tag on a grand and put in a diff? who the hell knows. I really wish people would get off the Neon bashing! I dont like the looks but if it was out when i got my car I might, keyword, might have gotten one. I'm about performance! all the money I'm spending on the engine of the msp could have gone to the suspension for the neon, or Vice versa. Dont hate it just cause its faster (Shhh: I'm trying to piss people off! :p )

The srt-4 definately hauls ass...
I saw a brand new srt-4 parked next to a very nicely modded silver WRX the other day..wish i had my camera.

Looked like Rosie O'Donnell sittin next to Heidi Klum

But beauty is in the eye of the beholder i guess...

yeah all the money into the suspension ...........blah........blah
but its still a NEON;) :p

I laugh at your head gasket comments.

PEOPLE FOR THE LAST TIME -

The head gasket was an issue in the 95-99 Neons. That engine is also the 2.0L engine, not the 2.4L that is in the SRT.

Another thing to think about... if you're going to buy either one, think of how much more the Neon will depreciate.

The SRT-4 is an awesome straight line performance car. I've liked turbo dodges ever since I owned an '87 Shelby Daytona. But, the MSP is the complete package. And the engine holds up fine to mods, you just need to know how to tune and not blow s*** up.

ok to shed some light on this subject. I Traded in my Mazdaspeed on and SRT. I liked my mazdaspeed as far as looks go. BUT, after driving it for a couple of months. the car really seemed slower than i anticipated. the boost lag really got on my nerves. i know it might not be important for some people. but in my eyes, if i was gonna shell out 20$ grand for a "turbo" car, it better be really fast. Looks wise the car is great, plus the stereo. handling is great. the other MAIN reason for the trade was the fact that there was NO AFTERMARKET SUPPORT for the car. i didnt wanna have to spend 1, 000$ to make the engine stronger when i could get the dodge that was already above that stage. every1 keeps complaining that an AFTERMARKET BLOWOFF VALVE WILL STALL on the mazda, i just ordered the MOPAR blowoff valve kit, for 60$ for my srt w/ no stall issues at all. basically it boils down to wanting a car that was meant for for looks and handling, w/ the mazda. or do u want a car made for speed, that is meant to be built up to suit the buyer. for 400$ the srt has the STAGE 1 kit, 40hp dyno tested. most people on this formum myself included spent 260$ on an injen for the mazdaspeed for 12-14 hp, go figure..

My brain hurts for lack of sentance separation.

Periods are your friends.

Wait...you traded the msp for a srt4 b/c of "turbo lag"?

Um, doesn't the SRT-4 come with a larger stock turbo, i.e. higher spool threshhold?

he had hesitation...not lag. Some people never picked up on that I guess...and some weren't willing to wait a little for the fix. I might add that the mopar stage one kit was dyno'd quite lower than 40hp to the wheels, from what I've heard. The INJEN dyno at at least 10whp but closer to 12-15whp. It can now be had at ~200$. Anyway, for a more limited production run vehicle what did you expect? I'd rather look sexy and kill on the autocross course than look like an icky solid colored skittle (except for the silver which looks alright, but still not my taste) and blow people away on the straights. But that's just me...nothing wrong with the dodge engine (except that I don't like dodge) I just don't enjoy the vehicle that they placed it in.

I should have said - everything I have read puts the boost marks for these two cars right at the same rev's (3k or so according to mags) & after driving an Eclipse GS-T and 03 WRX, I can't imagine complaining about the lag in an MSP.

(dunno)

You would think that the SRT's bigger turbo would have turbo lag, but it surprisingly doesn't.
2.4 liters+small turbo=little lag. that turbo is smaller than the evo turbo. isn't it a td04 16g? why would they ever put a td04 housing on a 16g? and integrate the exhaust manifold into the turbine housing? sounds like a good, cheap upgrade path was thought of before hand. after driving my 16g'd laser i notice no lag in my msp. as for the bov stalling, it has to do with where the air is metered, so how can one be better than the other, just because it can be vented and make cool ricer sounds. you don't need to upgrade your bov to vent it, you just won't get the cool sounds. what engines do the neon's even have? is it a 4g64, or one of dodge's wonderful creations? exactly what aftermarket support do you want? exhaust? custom is cheapest anyways, but they exist otherwise. intercooler? kits are being developed. turbo? way easier to upgrade than the neon since it is a garrett already and not a mitsu piece. internals? the fs-de has been around since early 90's, they're available. i don't see what else you would want from an aftermarket? you have pretty much the same options as every other turbo car out there, the only bad part being a lack of forged internals (does the neon have forged?), but that isn't terrible to fix if you're a competent mechanic and don't have to pay someone to do everything. neon owners are fast now, but most of them don't realize they're at (or quickly approaching) the limits of their turbo, and upgrading won't be cheap or easy, especially since the turbo is at the back of the engine (good planning, eh?)
just so everyone knows, i do really like the neon and i was between the two, but there are some definite disadvantages that it came with and there is more to driving than going in a straight line, and the msp is a more solid all around car IMHO, if only we could get some more tunability from the ecu

yeah, but I think the advantage he is getting at is that dodge is supporting the srt4 through their dealerships via the mopar line, whereas we are all out on our own.

(shrug)

as for the bov - thanks for saying it
;)

true, but i trust myself more than i trust dodge, and better parts can be had for less than what dodge will charge ;)
