MSP Stalling

Hey everyone,

I recently picked up my second MSP, but unfortunately for me, it had a stalling problem since I took it home. For example, if I was driving in town between stop lights and didn't let the vac drop before I took it out of gear, it would fall on it's face. The previous owner had put on a dual bpv/bov setup but decided to cap the vac line going to the OEM bpv. I figured that was it, so I hooked the vac line back up so both valves were actually opening and it still stalled. This morning I disconnected the HKS SSQV bov and....it worked! (whistle) Initially I was going to adjust the spring, but apparently this one doesn't have one...?

Anywho, I'm wondering why disconnecting it would resolve the stalling issue. Both valves were being opened from the same vac source, so do you think that dropped the vac down too far and caused it to stall?

Thanks!

because you don't have a relocated maf. when you vent air after the maf it causes a rich condition hence the stall. if you want it not to stall relocate the maf after the bov so it can adjust for the venting of air.

Where is the MAF located? Intake or charge piping, and if in the charge piping, where's it located in reference to the bovs?

I thought about the MAF location as being a potential problem, but I thought that since I was recirculating with the OEM bpv as well that wasn't as big of an issue...? I definitely could have misunderstood what I read though. The MAF is located in the intake yet.

The MAF location is the problem... Relocate it and your problem will be gone.

i know this is a old post but seemed more relative to my issue. i have my MAF right after the cone filter on a short ram air to the turbo. should it not be there?

No. It should be in the cold pipe of the intercooler, before the intercooler. Also, try cleaning the MAF before you relocate it while you have it out because a dirty MAF can result in stalling as well.

Here is how my setup is just got the car a month ago so just trying to get everything sorted out before I start modding.

You want the BOV and MAF on the charge pipe/cold side (because it's easier this way). So - turbo, intercooler pipe, FMIC, intercooler pipe, BOV, MAF, throttle body. Keep about 6" between the BOV and MAF, and the MAF and TB.

wouldn't it mess up the the MAF if its after the BOV since when the butterfly on the TB shuts the air comes off the butterfly back to vent out the BOV?

i had to do this same mod on my msp when \i was running a greddy bov. Made the car run perfect
