It was meant to be a suggestion from left field. When it comes to the Mazda world, yes I am ignorant, this is my first one. However engine swaps aren't usually small operations, so I went with a no-limits scenario. I wasn't expecting the verbal raping however.
sorry i could have handeled it in a more proffesional manner.:(

Gee, to get back on topic:

You have $11k to spend. Ok, I think turboge had a good suggestion: get a Haltech ecu and get turboge to tune it for you. Intake, exhaust, run up the boost with the stock internals and see how far you get with that setup. Then, if you still want more, you can go with building up a motor with forged internals and more boost. Perhaps a different turbo. Etc.

Not only could you have fun with this, you'd be helping a bunch of us on this thread learn more about where the limits are.

I would just have fun with your current engine. See how far itll go!

Ten pounds of boost from a T3 Garrett turbo with zero fuel management, no extra injectors or fuel pumps running at wide open throttle is as far as the 2.0 can go. Trust me, I have four holes in my old block to prove it.

As for those 5.0 miata conversions, wouldn't that totally negate the 50/50 weight distribution and whack out the car's superb handling?

On the note of a new engine - the 2.0 from the Kia Sportage is an FS-DE made entirely of iron and no aluminum parts, making it that much tougher than our engines. It will bolt directly into our cars. I have wondered about retrofitting the 2.3 liter MZR from the Mazda 6i into the Protege and going with that or turbo charging it. What do you think of this idea?

Sorry to say, but you're not going to find a whole list of engines that'll slap right into your engine bay - we're not a Honda or some 60s mopar monster.

Sticking a VeeDub motor into our cars would be nothing short of a SIN :)

I never said i thought this was going to be easy, and yes it will cost a good penny. Reason im doing this instead of beafing up the internals and just moding the engine it currently has is because other people have more money than me. It wont be the best or a one of a kind car once some company gets there hands on it. So why not drop a new engine in it mod the s*** out of it and then even if a car is better they dont have what you have. Which is the main purpose behind it. Ive been calling alot of people i know to see my options. IM about to go up to kernersville and meet this Nissan guy at a local performance shop.

Thanks for the suggestions. Anymore more is welcome. But no reason to argue.

I think if someone wanted to do something really custom, like putting a monster turbo 1.8T in a protege, that would rock!
Sure, it's not a Mazda, but I think we know we can't get LOADS of power from our engines without doing some major work to them.
I would support the 1.8T swap!!!
GO!!!

heheheheh

you r going to put a vw emgine , drivetrain in a car that was designed for a mazda engine and trans. are you a ******* idiot???????????

Wow Perfy Poo you gots some teeth...
Grrrr...O beehave!(k) (k) (k)

hey, what turbo comes on the mazdaspeed, i think that a T28 (because of its low rpm spooling) would be excellent for autocross. tell me that im stupid now please

Would you be selling your stock turbo set up??? and how much?

Drop in a jspec MX6 motor and boost it. theres 400 hp potential there.

ok just out of curiosity did you say you DONT have the money?
and i just want to really know what you think is wrong with the motor you have or is it you would like to biuld something that no one else has??
thanks in advance:D

With $11k, I'd think you'd easily be able to top the 400hp mark with the Mazda motor. Pick up a spare at a wrecking yard, then go to it.

if they can stuff a Supra engine into an RX7, anything can be done.
