well good luck dude .
you have a nice car . in my opinion i wouldnt go with putting another motor in.
you want something no one else has???
then why no think about a dual forced induction set up. supercharger and turbo charger!!
thats somthing that has never been done on a protege and you will definatly be the first with that kind of a set up.
BTW it has been done before on another car. i think an MR2 in some magazine. but only once.
anyway just a thought:D

he if someone can post about a VW swap then i can have some fun too!!:D
in all honesty i just wouldnt go crazy with changing the motor.
seriously if you want something no one else has i would look into maybe importing the AWD setup from japan
if he sais he has 11000 to play with and wants something different at least make it a logical choice than changing engine , trans, ecu , harnesses , mounts etc.just to sat i have a different engine look at meee!
with the AWD he has a base to fall back on being that it is produce in another country from the factory that way. im sure with some technical guidance it would be a worth while project:D

well since we're dreaming.

you can get a used but good 911 3.2 liter motor for $10k (300 pounds)

You'll also need a new tranny, so it might at well be sequential shift (50 - 70 pounds)

Then put in a Willwood rear axle. (40 pounds)

Then remove the radiator.

then sell the entire OEM driveline on Ebay.

in the end you'll weigh less and have a shockingly modded car with 250 HP and a totally flat torque curve

As far as the dual forced induction, the only one I remember seeing was the Meguire's Integra Type-R. Supercharged and Turbo charged, but it wasn't an unbeleiveable amount of HP. It was merely done because it hadn't been done before. Hardly any turbo lag, but for what it cost, I wouldn't copy it...It's basically the same a a twin turbo setup. A smaller turbo for low boost, and a bigger one for when you pick up your revs...
